Hey, The 2007-2008 outdoor season at the Rockpile is almost over. Thank you Brian for letting us race at the rockpile even when your out of town. We all really appreciate it and hope we have it for next year! Well we can begin to post Ideas and updates on a place to race this year. Also we can talk about getting a new president in the house.
Our annual meeting will happen sometime in the next few weeks. Please do your best to make it to the meeting. Like my friend from Vermont says "If you don't vote, don't bitch."
This is our club and you have a voice in what goes on. Clubs also rely on its' members to do the work to hold down costs - volunteer to do something. The same guys year after year do most of the work and they deserve a break.
I would like to see some committees set up to split up the workload. I would also like to see us all take turns being race director for a night. Maybe a calendar setup at the beginning of the year and you pick your weekend to direct. Then you know what to expect and can plan accordingly. We all need to pitch in to keep it fun for everyone.
Looking forward to fast off road carpet action this winter with my friends at the MARCCA track.
I think we are probably going to have to have a meeting in a few weeks about our indoor season and work from there.
We had a pretty good Sumer at the Rockpile and the MWNX series race day was great and brought in some extra cash to the club.
We hopefully have a few more weeks at the Rockpile and if we can get a deal with the landlord again we should get going indoors right after we finish up at the Rockpile.
The Elections usually depend on membership and this year we have I beleive around 30+.
I really should have counted before posting.
My point is that lately we basically had no elections because if someone wanted on the Board then they got on due to low membership and the positions were not challenged for so no need for elections.
Everyone on the Board(and quite a few not) have at one time or another contributed much to M.A.R.C.C.A. over the years.
And at times have stepped up when no one else would-Examples-Tim M. becoming president when no one wanted in 2000-2001?(Cottage grove track time)-He also Racedirected all sumer.
Don for also doing the same for multiple years.
Michelle for keeping the books and paying the bills and racedirecting and always working with Don with all our Landlords and Building Changes.
John C. has helped the indoor track move countless times along with Jeff G.,Ty S.,Bob M.,Jessi V,Jason G.,and honestly the list goes on and on both past and present people all the way back to 1985 when M.A.R.C.C.A started (I was there).
History shows that this club started and has always been a Democracy and I do not think we should change that and If we change anyone on the board it will be done at Election time and until then we need to all find out ways we can help and if you think you want to step up and take on the responsibilities of A board member or Officer of our club then put you'r name in the hat and wait until the votes are counted.
I will do no more or less for the club regardless of me being on the board.
If more than enough people would like to get involved with meetings and be on the board or a officer I would love to see that problem.
I have seen interest in change but only for one position-I would like people to get involved and learn more and be more active to help the club.
There is no one position or Title or Member that is more important than another-this is a club guys and The membership makes this thing work.
We have been fortunate to get Racers visiting us and racing with us Indoors and Out.
So let us worry about Elections when it is time-I think we try to get a membership drive going in December then we start working on elections.
So lets enjoy the time outdoors that we have left, then work on getting indoors then Elections like we always do.
I for one want to learn to use the scoring system, if nothing else than to take some of the load off Bob during the off-road season. Besides nothing is more fun than announcing how slow Mike C. is I owe you that shot by the way
So what classes are there for the indoor, I know there is 1/10 stadium "off road".... Are there other classes like sedan? I need to decide what I want/need to get for the indoor racing.
Also the racing is on Saturdays right and not Sunday for the indoor season?

Historically the indoor trucks have run on Saturday evenings. Doors would open around 3 and the program start at 6. Three qualifiers and then mains to follow.
Sedans had been going a few years back on Sundays but there has not been much happening with those for the past two years at least. More of our members seem to be getting sedans so maybe there will be a come back.
1/10 scale truck rules are simple ... anything goes. Nobody can cheat that way. Most run brushless and lipo. Gone Bananas foam tires are the best.
This is all what has been happening. During our elections and meeting rules and schedules are discussed. It is a member run club. If the membership wants something to happen and is willing to do the work needed to pull it off, it will probably happen.
This will be my first carpet season and I don't have a vehicle yet. I am leaning towards the RC10 T4 truck what do you think? Regardless of what truck I get I need some opinions on what brushless motor size and brand to get (Novak GTB ESC & Motor Combo)? As far as battery I would like to run Lipo, but my lipo knowledge at this point is limited, I have been looking at MaxAmps. Remember it will be my first season, I would like to get around the track on the wheels more than the lid, and I would like to also run Monroe's and maybe RCP's carpet.
Any help would be great.
I bought a Revo last winter and found out the hard-way that the Monster class is dead, I don't want to make the same mistake twice.
hi matt this is jeff i think the best combo to start is a novak gtb 6.5 it is real mello but not to mello it is the ideal off road set up that is what i started with three years ago.and lipo go with a trak 4900 lipo pack it is only 100 to 115.00 pending on where u get it. i think this would be perfect to start with!let me no if u have any more qs.
What Jeff said, and nearly all of the name-brand lipos are good batteries.... Just have to take care of them and they'll last many cycles. One thing is that you might want more than one pack. Charging at 1C, most packs take about an hour to charge... So to be able to run without delay... you may want two packs. Though a short heat may not take much capacity from the pack so you could top it off more quickly. If it were me I'd still get two packs.

I agree that the GTB is the best speed control out there if you can afford it. As far as how much motor to get it somewhat depends on your driving ability and your radios options. When I began again back a few years ago, I had a 10.5 motor to start and that was a handful to me at the time. I turned down the radio some to make it more drivable for me starting back up in the sport. As I got better at driving I turned up the juice. A year later I bought a 6.5 and that is all the power I need now. You must be able to control the power of the motor or you will just crash faster and harder.
A T4 is a good truck. Losi is also good. Ran the Losi for two years and now have a T4 and love it. Most of the MARCCA guys now have T4's but a few have Losi too. Either way we have plenty of experience with making either go fast and usually have some spare parts to help each other out with.
One 4800 or so battery is all you really need. Two is nice in case you get bumped up in the mains but someone will borrow you one more than likely if needed.
Any combination of the above will get you going well at the carpet tracks and are all mainstream parts that wont get outdated anytime soon. New models of Associated or Losi may come out soon but parts are plentiful for the two main models available now.
Gone Bananas racing skinz foam tires are the best for carpet trucks. Local racer makes em and his service is top notch if you need it.
Feel free to contact me via pm and we can chat on the phone if you wish.
RMKinWI:
I started carpet trucks about two years ago after a long time away from RC. My first night at MARCCA was the greatest experience for a "newbie" racer. The guys are friendly, approachable, and willing to give advice and or parts with no hesitation. The competition is intense, but relaxed. Even if you don't run with the "fast guys", you will definately enjoy the atmosphere at MARCCA.
As for trucks, I am an Associated T4 guy. Half the guys run T4's and the other half run Losi's. Parts for either are readily available, and most guys carry enough spares to lend out parts when needed.
Novak combos are great, but don't forget the LRP systems. Team Venom also has a brushless combo coming out. There is also the Mamba or Sidewinder. As for wind, 6.5 is a lot of power, I usually run a 7.5 LRP system.
Setup is the key though. You can have all the motor in the world, but without a good setup, you won't be able to use that power. Marcca guys are even willing to give you their setups.....RPM gave me his T4 setup sheet to use. (didn't do me any good since I can't drive)
Banana Skinz tires are the way to go for putting the power to the carpet. Hope you get out to MARCCA when the season starts, I will be the one Jeff Mann is making the most fun of.
These guys are right on the Money with the advice.
This is a Great time in R.C. with all the awesome batteries and motors to choose from.
Motor and Battery maintenance is a thing of the past if you choose lipo batteries and brushless motors.
I use an orion 4800 lipo and a Novak 5.5(more than enough!) and I am very happy.
The nice thing about the trucks is you can goof around with them outside, race them outdoor dirt ex.-Rockpile,indoor dirt ex.-Trackside in Milwaukee and race them indoor on carpet offroad ex.-MARCCA,Rcp and Monroe and when they run onroad most tracks will run a onroad truck class except maybe Trackside.

Losi's trucks are a little tougher xcept rear hubs (swithch to mf2)
T4 is faster but a arm and f bulkhead tend to snap on impact (don't crash)
Question Bob or members:: If a couple of series races happen this year keep in mind of start times. I know it's a sore subbject but I remember it did cause some issues last year. I hope to get up there more this yaer. Thanks
Just look at the previous replys. I would say the same thing but its right below... Alot of guys have made the switch to the T4. I have had good luck with the truck so far. I did put on the front RPM arms because I did indeed break alot of front stock or graphite arms. They say there is more flex in the RPM arms but i dont see that big of a difference...
Below is a post from Hotrod on Marccas website. Seems as if we are off and running soon. Yipeeeeeee. Count me in for that day - maybe Alex too.
ok, here we go.
we got a GREAT deal on the rent for the winter...right in the same place. hey, at least we don't need to move it. and trust me, it's a REALLY good deal on the rent.
CLUB MEETING saturday, 10-11. 10:30 AM. at the indoor track, 2556 Advance Rd, Unit C. work party to follow. free 'za to everybody that makes it out to help.
