Default 1/8 On Road Survey in Malaysia

Hello,
I would like to ask your opinions what 1/8 models have lots of followers in KL areas, and have LHS supports. The reasons being; I am looking for a 1/8 car in Japan - most popular being the MRX-3 or Fanthom. But I'm not sure if I can get spare parts in Malaysia as well as supports (well technical supports, of course). Serpent 950 is still very expensive here (in Japan), and old cars like MRX2 is cheaper, but I do not know if I can still get parts in Malaysia. What about local tracks that you can use 1/8? Thanks

i don't think things have changed a lot in KL so here's my $0.02:

- Titiwangsa track in KL - THE place to play your 1/8 in Klang valley altho' it may be a bit small
- Seremban track - alternative track but it's a private track .. can be used for 1/5th scale racing

Check out RACE - hobby shop in Ampang Park shopping centre. "Madam" carries most 1/8 parts for Titiwangsa kakis .. she has both Mugen & Serpent parts.

if i were u, i would get the Mugen .. value for $$$

Thanks a lot,

Do you know the price tag of MRX-3 in Malaysia? Chassis kit version, and if they have with engine version as well.

Hi maresma,

I think the MRX-3 is around RM16XX region & the 950 is in the area of RM19XX.

So I guess 1/8 scale in Malaysia still hasn't got the popularity as it has in Japan or Europe. Space (track) and price are the main hinderance - as I can conclude.
Anyway, I'm interested to check on Seremban track. Any details on internet?

Its been a quiet world for 1/8 on road in Malaysia and Singapore as well. I used to own the MRX2 and the MRX3 but gave up due to the high cost of tires and fuel...but that was also the time i really enjoy this hobby...as some say it "The Ultimate in RC Cars"

By the way, there is gonna be a 1/8 on road track at Desa Jaya, Johor Bahru soon...awaiting the local council approval The layout and design would be of quite similar to the PA track at Singapore.

ruD - u r correct. considering the price of fuel & tyres for 1/8s .. they are very expensive for the everyday M'sian. very high cost .. more expense than a wife?

aiyah .. why make the track like PA's? make it VERY different .. more interesting mah

indeed .. 1/8 = ultimate in RC cars. once you've driven one at that speed and the sound of the 2 speed engaging (especially down the big sweeper on the PA track) .. nothing else even comes close to it.

Frankly speaking, I never even thought of 1/8. Buying the car at high cost is one thing, RUD got it right that the tire and fuel will kill you softly.

Malaysian always go for the most affordable things, like a piramid growing exponentially towards the bottom. The most bottom is QD and the top is 1/8.

Seremban 2 track is private owned but you can play there. No entrance fees. Just make sure to obey the frequency rules and be courteous to the other drivers there

1/8th scale may be expensive initially but if you compare their parts to 1/10 scale parts, their price is about the same. Also, even though 1/8th scale goes faster, they don't break parts as much as 1/10 scale cars. 1/8th scale cars are more robust. 1/10 TC cars have more realism though if you're really into 1/1 scale touring cars.

Rudy is right about tires and fuel. 125 cc will only last you 5 minutes wereas on 1/10 scale, 75 cc will last you about 6 to 7 minutes.

For me, the only hindrance to playing 1/8th scale is the lack of a proper track. Titiwangsa is not big enough for 1/8th scale. If I was living next door to the Seremban 2 track, I'll be into 1/8th scale Who can resist the speed temptation? It's the F1 of RC

Heard that PA in singapore is having a 1/8 race this weekend. Titiwangsa should also have one sometime in the middle of the month.

Serpent 950

Well, that's because I'm a Serpent nut But seriously, it will be a difficult choice between the 950 and the MRX-3.

Parts may be a little expensive for the 950 but the car that is in the winning streak lately is the 950. If you do not mind this, then the 950 is a good car to get. Else, get the MRX-3. I think both cars are equal. Just the drivers behind the Tx will determine if the car handles good or bad.

The 1/8th scale on road world championships will be in Ohio this September. Perhaps you could wait and see which car performs and then your choice would be clearer.

In SG, they are trying to save the PA campsite track. They do that by organizing 1/8th scale races to revive interest in the 1/8th scale.

RCAC just held a 1/8th scale on road race in Seremban 2 track about a week or two ago.
