Default Cheap Servo Review Thread

Hi Guys, I have no intention to disrupt anyone's business here, but I'm sure these cheap servos are more tempting than ever before so I believe they will still sell very well

Anyway, I got a TowerPro 995 about 3 months ago, and It still works fine.

Pros
1. Cheap! Can get below RM80
2. It lasts for 3 months of 1:8 Buggy offroad action!
3. True to spec sheet

Cons
1. Overshoot problem. *by 3 degrees, and takes 3 to 4 modulations to get into position. DO NOT USE AS THROTTLE SERVO AND ON AEROPLANES
2. After a few days of bashing with it, it emits some kind of high pitched electronic noise at standstill. Problem still persists

Hopefully some of you guys could do a mini review on your cheap servos too! I'm tempted to try those Bluebirds and Hextroniks

Hi, I'm using the bluebird servo for long time, so far i found is good..it have last me numbers of big races..the only thing you need to watch out is dont stress your servo...endpoint of the servo to control from your controller is important, it will be last u for long time..

much more better then those branded but plastic servo
the tip to lenghten the lifespan this brand of servo is to
1 ) turn your transmitter before your reciever
2 ) any kind of ajustment to be made wtih the reciever battery in off position
3 ) do some homework, check the metal gearing inside the casing
4 ) No HRS mode

but if this servo start to glitch, not centering when u switch it on
just throw it away ( after u salvage the usable parts ) and buy new one
what do u aspect for this RM50 metal gear analog servo ?
want to use it for 10 years kaaaaa?

hey bro, as u know i am using TowerPro 995 too for throttle and steering...
spoiled the throttle servo due to my failsafe setup, but fixed by myself after that. Both of them serving me well so far...

I'm using MG995 for my throttle and steering, i've been using these servos for 9 months now, Many people say it is an analog servo, but hey, if you look at it's circuit board and hum noise, it's clearly indicate that it is a digital. in order to make it a better servo, you'll have to glue the motor to it's housing, this is to prevent the motor slip inside it's housing which may cause motor wires to break. I also replaced it's motor brushes to thicker brush with carbon in the tip, which i took from larger motor. the stock one are so thin that will worn out faster. amazingly after the brush mod, the torque is stronger and the overshoot problem gone . However, the gears seem rough, so i put some Penn Lube, any fishing tackle shop selling this http://www.pennfishingstore.com/penn-reel-grease.html , gears are much more quiter and smooth. I still got few of these servos, lying around which i bought as spares, next time i do this mod, i'll snap some pics.

Regards,
Tee Kuang

Yeah! I know how frustrating it is sometimes to convince people that this is a digital servo! It's got 'DiGi' printed on it Thumbs up for the rectified overshoot problem!!!!!! I'll give your mod a try....as for the brushes, i have yet to actually see them. I'll open up the servos this weekend BTW teekuang tailo, what's the speed of this servo? I believe it's plus .20 sec at 6V

Ya betol lah bro! Memang digital, but the processor yg TowerPro guna kurenggggggg sikit....that's why overshoot problem. Or, like teekuang has said, it might be the brushes
