I charge my platinum at 4 amp. I thought of charging it at 4.8 but 4 amp is the Orion's recommended current. I usually charge all 3 packs the night before and repeak it just before bashing it on the track.
So far, there is no need for balancing up to 30 cycles. Even after 30 cycles, I feel that there is still no need to balance it.
To balance the platinum, buy 2mm plug from TP racing and charge it individually at 3.7 volt instead of 7.4. I've done once or twice for every pack that i own, but there is not much different though.

Thanks man. I'm sure I'm not the only one that finds this useful. Info on new tech is always hard to come by, so it's great to have pioneers like you.

I took the leap.

pushing this thread up!
i need some inputs about lipo and local racing. Apparently, none has allowed or plan to allow the use of lipos. Oo yea...i read all too many about the "nominal voltage" thingy. Crap!
At the rate, sub-c are dying these days....running NiMH is no longer fun

So far, they've not been allowed at any of the big race series so you still need some NiMH cells
Some smaller one-off races like the ones at RC Planet do allow them though.

yeah....i might as well do the smaller one-off races than sinking big bucks every other month. Looking at another angle...with lipo i can also do 400-sized ep heli as well with the same 1 or 2 lipo packs.
i never knew flightpower and trakpower lipos are made in malaysia. Ya know who sells them here?

it seems that you are ready for that quantum leap...switching to LiPo discarding NiMh...
Man, i thought your state of the art Spintec ICC could do wonder to maintain the condition of your NiMhs?
So far RC Planet has been supportive in promoting the use of LiPo in their races. I wish it could be an option for other races as well.
I have an Orion 3200 LiPo, with my limited usage of it, i could only say it is no where comparable to IBs in terms of power. Perhaps i could be wrong though, since i am using it to bash my m-chassis. At the rate my IB cells are dying, plus the oddly hours needed to maintain them now and then....opppsss....forever, i guess a budget minded racer like me still opt and sincerely hope that LiPo will be accepted as the norm (if not an option) for future races. Heck, it is freaking easy to maintain (so long u ensure the voltage is within the threshold level)...pop in the juice at any time at any rate you want it...how beautiful that can be?
just imagine, one LiPo battery is needed for that fun 10-minute heat for m-chassis!
jeeeeezzz....

why is azman selling that unit?
yeap...i have read that ProTrak does a good job cycling/conditioning of the batts...
bottom line is, maintaining the batts is expensive for me..
massive equipment needed, dedicated charger with temp sensor with a descent high discharge rate, dedicated discharger tray, bla bla bla....
i just hope my batts could last till next MNC...
