Yes, thanks to everyone who came out this weekend to race. We had a decent turnout for offroad and an excellent one for our first carpet points race of the season. Too bad I was out of town and missed all the action.

Wait, maybe me being gone is the reason for the good turnout....... Have to think about this....

Had a question...I'm looking at coming up sometime in the near future from Hutchinson to run off road stadium truck. I'm running a Novak gtb with a 13.5 brushless...what stadium truck class would that put me in. Also what are the battery rules?

Right now we're only running a Mod Stadium Truck Class since that's where the local interest is. If we ran a stock truck class it'd be limited to 17.5 so your 13.5 would put you in Mod anyway.

Hope you can make it up to race with us at Fastlane....

Not sure if this is the proper post to ask this in, but im wondering if someone can give me some insight on how to determine the optimum rollout for both the onroad and carpet oval tracks at fastlane. Is this based on straightaway length? Motor turns? Weight? Or just trial and error?
Im using a novak ss 10.5 for onroad and 17.5 for oval, the chart on the novac website only confused me more.

Higher-turn (less powerful) motors are usually geared to keep them near their peak horsepower for most of the time during the lap, just the same as for full-scale racing cars. ("Higher-turn" motors would likely include 17.5 on 1s LiPo, and 25.5 on 2s LiPo.) The horsepower peak on all permanent magnet DC motors occurs at 1/2 of the free-running RPM (provided the battery and speed control do not have significant losses). If you have the equipment to measure the length of your racing ("run") line on the track, the RPM of the motor, and know your expected lap time, you can calculate the correct rollout as follows:

Rollout (inches/revolution) =
2 x
[1 / free_running_motor_speed (revolutions/minute)] x
[run_line (feet)] x
[12 (inches/foot)] x
[60 (seconds/minute)] x
[1 / lap_time(seconds)]

If these values are unknown, start with a conservative recommendation from a fellow racer who is familiar with the track. I have a tachometer if you need one to measure your motor RPM, but no longer have my distance-measuring-wheel to measure the run line.

More powerful motors are usually thermally-limited, meaning they would overheat if geared as described above. Select a rollout to keep the temperature in the range recommended by the motor manufacturer (usually 140F to 160F maximum). Again, start with a conservative recommendation from a fellow racer who is familiar with the track. The actual rollout you need will depend on your driving style, which is reflected in how many mAh you pull from the battery during a race. Smoother, more experienced drivers get around the track using less throttle than others, and can use a higher rollout without overheating the motor.

Breakout racing is an entirely different situation. I find it works best to set the rollout so the car will go slightly faster than the breakout time at 100% throttle throw, then turn down the throttle throw as a fine adjustment to the lap times. The rollout used will vary widely from driver to driver depending on their ability. I have increased the rollout by up to 30% or so for drivers that are new to onroad, versus what I run on the same car.

Thanks Howard,
Thats more information than i was able to find from hours of searching the internet.
I have been given great advice on starting gear ratios from people at the track, but im trying to figure out the basis for those numbers so im able to fine tune them myself.

Any "bar style" barcodes, suburbs, rebars... All in super soft compound, some have also found that vectors are working well on 10th scale buggy.

Chuck,

Is the on-road carpet track available on Wednesday night for practice?

Thanks,

Default transponder

I run Jakes at topeka most, but wondered if a MRT transponder works on your system? I've been told the MRT works on all amb rc2&3 systems. Thx Chris

ThxI'm thinking 79 and not having to deal with old plugs sounds good. I hope to run some VTA this winter, to keep up in the bad weather. Thx again Chris
