Default Manhattan Kansas area Racers and Bashers!

In search of all R/C fanatics in the Manhattan & Fort Riley area. It will be warm soon and time to race parking lots and bash in the backyard again. I encourage everyone to stop by Hastings parking lot on Sundays and bring their R/C's even if they aren't on-road. It's very relaxed, anything goes racing, and best of all it's free! If more people consistently showed up to race it would become more organized and more fun too. If there is enough interest in the area I'm sure we could even get an off-road track going... without the help of the hobby store in JC. Even if you're just interested in bashing or whatever, drop a line!

I'm in Topeka, but if you get something together I'm sure I could make a few trips.

Thanks for the support! I plan on checking out the open house in Topeka on April 12th and hopefully making it to some of your races this year.

Just checking in, 10 miles up the road, from Wamego. Yal know how to find me. Off-road only, nitro style.
Love to get a track going here in this neck of the woods.
Hutch and P-Hill are going to try and start racing this weekend. T-town starts in a few weeks.
Get some ground and I can get another Pallet rack like I put in T-town for a drivers stand. Anyone know anything about the old MBX track by the dump. Its private owned and thats all I know, dont know if the owners would be intested in RC racing.

I didn't know anything about an MBX track by the dump, but that would be something to look into. I'm just not sure if there is enough interest for an off-road track near Manhattan. We have a hard enough time getting anyone to show up on Sunday's at Hastings. If people would show up and race, I feel like we could get some land somewhere, either private or public. I'm sure we could get land at Tuttle Creek lake. Maybe near the R/C flying club already there. I though Keats park would be good, it's near Ft Riley, the park has electricity and bathrooms etc. If there's not interest in Manhattan, then there's no use getting land I figure. I'm glad Topeka is as close as it is, it looks as if you have quite a few racers over there. I will check it out this year for sure!

That on-road stuff is hard because everyone I know wants to race off-road. If there was an off-road track, people you have never seen or heard of before would show up. 80% of all RC cars sold are for a dirt track or backyard. I know several guys that travel to race off-road from this area and here in Wamego there is lots of off-road RCs when I have 14-16 of them show up to race and jump the quarter pipe in my backyard, last Saturday I had 7cars here racing around a little track layout. Yes most are monsters, a few buggies. But I know more of them would get buggies if they ever saw true organized racing in this area. How many on-road cars do you have show up on Sunday, 20 or less? I know several real full size mud truck racers who have asked about the racing I do, because the real thing has gotten too exspensive for them to compete.
I guess what I am getting at, dont compare On-road to Off-road in this area. Topeka has On-road racing too, and I have never been there.
The common bond is RC racing, they just want to race, but their ideas of racing are far apart.
Build a Track and They will Come!!

Is there any reason you haven't tried to start up a track either in Wamego or Manhattan? If you know alot of people that would be interested, then maybe we could start looking into getting a location. How big of an area do you think we would need?

Its not lack of interest, its the AMBrc system and insurance that I cant afford and I have very little time, I just make time to race, no way could I run a race track, would love too, but just not possible.

I would like to get over there and check that out sometime too rockstar. Hey Joe, I didn't realize you needed insurance...that's a bummer. Even if it's on private land? Robin at the hobby store says she knows an enthusiast named Chris who would donate the land. Just tossing ideas out there.

My Buddy Chris is in the same boat I am, we both are mechanics that own our own business, no time. The land isnt his, story behind that. Besides that, Manhattan has a full drag schedule this year and if they stick to it, he is going to dump RC and race the real thing.
Everything has to have insurance, I am sure that the RC airplanes at Tuttle are a member type deal, and you have to be a member to fly out there for insurance reasons if someone gets hurt. Dont know but most places are.

The eye doctor, Dr. Claussen holds the Wamego RC races every year and has been to the track in Topeka, he is interested in building a track. I just dont have time to make a proposal and time to run it.

Joe, do you think that Dr. Claussen (the eye doctor) would be interested in sponsering me at one of the races this year? Who but me would be better advertisement?

Couldn't we post a "not responsible for injuries" sign or something? Also, Les and Gene don't have insurance for our parking lot racing. What other expenses am I not thinking about? A lap counter, a border, dirt, driver stand, some dirt. Are there any other big expeses that we would need to have? We could probably even get some businesses to donate to help us out. I have some free time, but not alot. I would like to get together with everyone interested in helping out to talk about ideas and obstacles, get the ball rolling. How about R/C McGraws here in Manhattan some weekend?
