Stock 2WD Short Course Trucks have been one of the most popular classes in off-road RC. With a fairly low-cost barrier to entry and rules that reward clean, consistent driving and proper setup, it remains both an accessible and extremely competitive class at Phil Hurd Raceway.
There were 19 entries at the 2012 Classic, and the top three were Mickey White in 3rd and Chris Byron in 2nd, with Randy Ellis taking the top spot.

The Open 4WD Short Course Truck class exploded in 2012, with the Losi TEN-SCTE and the Associated SC10 4x4 pushing lap times that rival 1/8 scale's, all with smaller 540 & 550 brushless motors and a 2-cell LiPo limit.
Out of the huge field of trucks, the 2012 top three were Larry Ward in 3rd, Patrick Rossiter in 2nd, and Max Flurer walking away the win.

Dust off that B4, paint that wing on your DEX210, or throw an insane motor in your TLR 22. Maybe you've even got a vintage RC10 that's tired of being shelved -- well... you asked for it, so you got it - 1/10 2WD Buggies invade the Colonel's Winter Classic!
This class has seen a major revival in 2012, and with today's insanely fast brushless motors and a lot of cross-compatability with Short Course in both parts and driving style, 1/10 buggy is fast, fun and... can we use fast again? Because these things are - and because it's all about speed, forget spec! If you can wrangle it around our new, highly-technical layout, maybe you can make it to the podium.
Rules
- Any 1/10 2WD Buggy
- Buggy-style body, aftermarket permitted.
- Any 540 can motor
- Any Electronic Speed Controller
- 2S LiPo or 7-Cell NiMH maximum
- ESC Timing & Boost permitted
- Any 1/10 buggy wheel and tires
- Chassis dimensions conform to ROAR rules

1/8 Electric Buggy really took off in 2012. Using in most cases the same basic chassis as their Nitro-powered counterparts and fitted with high-powered electric motors, the easier tuning and gobs of on-demand torque became a huge draw to drivers at every skill level.
In 2012, the podium was rounded out with Jason Smith in 3rd, Tim Smith in 2nd, and Max Flurer taking home a second 1st place trophy.
Rules
- Any 1/8 Scale 4WD buggy
- Any motor @ any KV/turn rating
- Any Electronic Speed Controller
- Any Battery configuration
- ESC Timing & Boost Permitted
- 1/8 Buggy wheels & tires only, no truggy wheels/tires, no studs
- Vehicle conforms to ROAR rules

When you want to go big, you go Truggy. Built similar to the 1/8 buggy but with longer suspension arms, bigger shocks, fatter tires, and a chunky .28 cid nitro engine, they're fast and high-flying. Their wider stance makes them less prone to rollovers, meaning you'll see a lot of sliding and drifting around corners as these beasts battle for position.
2012's Truggy podium was rounded out by James Tucker in 3rd and Randy Cooper in second, with Jason Smith out front.
Rules
- Any 1/8 Scale Truggy
- .28cid Engine
- Truggy wheels & tires, no studs
- Vehicle conforms to ROAR rules

It's the sound, the smell, and the raw power that brings a crowd. As soon as a nitro buggy cranks up, people come to see what's going on. Electric might be gaining in popularity, but Nitro is where the action is.
The Intermediate Nitro Buggy class brings out drivers of all different skills - from first-season novices to seasoned veterans. The competition is always tense, and the races are a grueling endurance match that test skill, patience, and the ability to adapt.
For 2012, the three drivers who emerged on the podium were Gregg Keen in third, Trey Wren taking second, and Mitchell Burkey taking the win.
Rules
- Any 1/8 Scale 4WD Buggy
- .21cid Engine Maximum
- 1/8 Buggy wheels & tires only, no truggy wheels/tires, no studs
- Vehicle conforms to ROAR rules

Here's a recap of the 2012 Pro Nitro class from JConcepts:
"The Pro buggy class showed very close racing from qualifying till the last lap of the Amain. From the start of the main all the top drivers battled for the top spot trading podium positions every lap. Towards the halfway point of the race Barry Pettit was able to take the lead and eventually the win. Jason Smith followed closely behind Pettit while Travis Dupree and Tim Smith battle for third place all the way up till the final few laps. Taking the win was Pettit followed by J. Smith, Dupree(TQ), T. Smith, with Chandler Elliot rounding out the top 5."
Congrats to Barry Pettit! Remember, there's still time to sign up on RCSignup.com!
