Action Speedway - Dirt Oval - Rome, GA
Action Speedway in Rome, Georgia is planning its season opener for Saturday, June 30. *Gates open at 4:00 for hot laps - drivers meeting and qualifying start at 6:00.*
Action Speedway is located in Rome, Ga. Lap times are in the 6.5 - 7.5 second range. There is a drivers stand, but trackside parking is available if you'd like to drive from your tailgate. Action Speedway is Not For Profit - totally for fun Private Track, so there is no entry fee! We are using the Ilaps scoring system; however, you must have your own transponder. Hand out transponders are NOT AVAILABLE at this time. *You may purchase your own here - rclapcounter.com - if you need one for around $40.*
Race Format:
We follow a full scale dirt oval style race format.
4:00 -sign up open - track open for practice*
6:00 - drivers meeting, followed by
- single car qualifying, 5 laps each
- heat races based off qualifying time - 40 laps*
- spectator/sportsman race - 15*
laps (this will be for anyone who is a novice or new to racing. If you have an "extra" car you wouldn't mind a potential future racer using, bring it!)
- intermission
- B main consolation race - 75 laps (winner has the opportunity to "bump" to A Main feature)
- A main feature - 75 laps
The races will be set up as follows:
Every car gets 5 qualifying laps. Qualifying order will be determined by drawing a random number.*
Qualifying times will set up heat races. Everyone gets one heat race.*
Fastest qualifier starts first in first heat. Second fastest starts first in second heat. Third fastest starts second in first heat. Fourth fastest starts second in second heat, etc.*
The top 3 cars from heat one will start on the inside of the A feature, likewise the top 3 from heat 2 transfer to the outside of the A feature. The fastest qualifier automatically gets into the A feature, but must race his way into his spot. For example: if he does not finish the heat he would start at the back of the inside row, or seventh.
The B feature would follow the same format for the lineup, picking up where the A feature stopped off. For the B feature, the winner will have the option to "bump up" to the A feature; however, he will need to be ready immediately to start the A... No charging batteries, changing stuff (battery change ok), etc. This will put a max of 8 cars in the A main and each driver will have to work his way in.
Drivers are expected to corner marshal after their race is complete.

I would race if they allow my new body to be ran (baja bug) my truck body is in pieces and if I can just remove my 4x4 driveshaft
#9
Man that looks smooth enough to run an F1 car on it!

We have nothing against 4x4 SCT's!!!
We're just choosing to use the 2wd specific SCT chassis at this time. They're simple so new comers aren't completely overwhelmed, used rollers are easy to aquire and are very durable, and parts and aftermarket are easy to find.
MXRich, thanks! A lot of work has gone into it. It still a work in progress but it's getting there.
Come see us - bring a 2wd SCT.

Right now the only class they are offering is the 2wd SCT Chassis late model class that I am aware of. I dont think they currently have any plans to allow nitro to run at the track and it will be electric only. I'd wait for scooter to chime in and confirm or deny this statement though.
I agree if the track is smooth enough to run an old TC3 touring chassis on a VTA body oval class could be a lot of fun. I'm not saying I would do it, but it seems like it could be fun

Hey Action Speedway guys !! What I hope to do, well have Jbro do real soon, is to make a parent website, perhaps North Georgia Oval Racing Association, whatever, think of a name that entertains you...then under that Parent website...it will have all the general stuff, rules of classes, some pretty pictures, whatever...on that "parent" website, there will be links to the tracks, like, click here for Action Speedway, Click there for Rash...you get the picture. We'll set it up this way so that perhaps, in the future, if other oval tracks pop up, commercial, private etc etc, they can also be linked under the "Oval Racing" "Parent"...What I'm saying is this...You guys will soon have your Own website to go along with the forum. All of this FREE and administered by US !! well, by Jbro, being as his computer skills seriously dwarf mine.
Also...LMR....the rubber VTA tires don't do so well on clay, regardless of how smooth it is...I tried it. I didn't try foams. It would be really cool to see them out there
