Brushless Stock and Super Stock Motor (formerly 19T class) proposal:
Motion: Proposal submitted from manufacturer’s committee with recommended
guidelines and motor specifications for ROAR rule inclusion of brushless technology in
sanctioned racing. Items discussed as to which wind of motor in BL technology to be
accepted as an acceptable equivalent with brushed motors in racing. With the overall
agreement ROAR needs to slow down stock motor racing and find another avenue for
some racers to advance into the intermediate level of racing,
Motion passed unanimously as follows:
Stock: 17.5 brushless technologies are acceptable to compete with 27T brushed
motors. It is believed the 27T motor will have an advantage and most racers will
continue the brushed technology therefore giving the membership another year of
preparation in the gathering of BL equipment. It is also believed, the intent to

POINTS LEADERS DOMINATE DURHAM

It was the Carolina Touring Car Series first visit this season to Durham. The racing was some of the best so far this year, with Vintage touring making it series debut under the USVTA banner. John Tag started the day where he has been all season out front he took the TQ in convincing fashion, but was challenge by two newcomers to the CTCS. In the 13.5 A-main, ROAR national champion Justin Lessard challenged early and made the pass on John when he slipped in the chicane, only to loose his drivebelt on the backstretch. A few laps later George Ryals was chasing down Tag and got up to his bumper, but a late race tangle with a back marker let John take his fourth victory of the year.

The 17.5 A-main had TQ Blake Ryan dominating from start to finish, runner up Joey McMakin finished a solid second but never mounted a solid challenge to the points leader. The first running of the Vintage Trans Am offered up everything it is supposed to be, the racing was close all day and Blake Ryan squeezed out the win just in front Martin Rey. With the rules that the USVTA has in place, the LeMans starts and inverted positions tighten up the fields and makes for some great racing. Chip Smith put on another Dominating performance in the 2wd gearbox class.

Point’s leader gets Tagged.

Express-motorsports owner and series point leader entered round 5 with a commanding 220 point lead over second place Joey McMakin. John has dominated the first four rounds of the CTCS series, would the bounty add to the excitement or would Tag crumble under the pressure, hardly. 2008 ROAR national champion Justin Lessard made his second start in the series, and did not disappoint.

Justin and John jostled back and forth for the TQ position all day, with Justin just barely squeezing out the top spot. The main was probably the most exciting race all year, the race start and Justin led from the tone. Before the first lap was over Tag was spun in turn four, this allowed Justin to open a commanding lead. The race mid way through saw some excellent battles for 2nd through 5th all separated by less than 2 seconds. John Tag, Rock, Joey McMakin, Mike Troxler and George Ryals were all fighting to get on Justin’s back bumper. The Tag hit his stride quickly closing on the National champ, by the last lap John was less than 2 feet from his spoiler, coming through the last chicane, Lessard had a slight bobble and Tag thermaled giving Justin his first win of the season.

The 17.5 race was no less dramatic, Blake Ryan continued his winning streak, but it was not as easy for him this go around Reggie Wade was all over him all day. While it looked like the bounty would be paid on this go round, Blake turned up the wick in the A-main, and had a half lap lead on Reggie at the finish.

The second start of the USVTA touring class saw more cars and more action. 9 cars took the starting tone with 8 running at the end; the entire field was separated by just a few laps. Maxamps’ Wesley Dennis took the TQ spot and battled for the top spot with Martin Rey and Manuel Wiscovtich, at the line Wesley Dennis had almost a full lap on Rey.

There was a new winner in the Gearbox class, Martin Rey finally got a handle on his truck for the A-main and won in convincing fashion. Point’s leader Chip Smith finished second ahead of Robert Flower.

Next race:

August 23rd.

Just think someone could take home $80.00 this weekend, I think someone has a good chance to at least split it.

Someone or some people gotta take Tag and Ryan down somewhere.

Rock and Rollin', Tag redemption, Blake takes a beating.
August 24th, 2008
Easley, SC

Tropical Storm Fay posed a threat at the beginning of the week, but the gave way to some of the best weather and racing of the season. It was the second visit to the Road Carolina complex this year, there were plenty of new faces and they did not disappoint. The Rock was a standout taking the win in the USVTA touring class and challenging for the 17.5 win, more on that later.

John Tag was up to his old tricks, after his set back at the last CTCS series race. He set TQ and led from the tone in the A-main. Chris Smalley, Jimmy Benfield and Martin Rey made thier first starts of the year in the very competitive 13.5 class, and they were upto the challenge finishing 2nd ,3rd and 4th respectively. Joey McMakin and Blake Ryan were up front throughout qualifying, but suffered setbacks and struggled in the main. Tag has been on top all year but there are alot of people nipping at his heels wanting to dethrone the points leader.

Blake Ryan TQ'd the 17.5 class and had Joey and the Rock challenging him in every qualifier. The main was well something "special", in what was one of the ugliest starts in any class this year, anything but a close finish is what everyone expected. Once things settled down Joey, Blake and Rock fought for the lead putting 2 laps on 4th place Ned Schmaltz and 5th place Marvin Shapiro. At the finish the top 3 were seperated by less then 3 seconds. Tim Habiuk and Andrew Tag finished 8th and 9th, but the extra 10 points for 8th tied the 3rd place points battle heading into round 7.

The USVTA touring class offered some of the best racing of the day, while the Rock was out in front taking the TQ and class win, the race was for second. Wesley Dennis, Ned Schmaltz and Martin Rey battle for the entire 8 minute main and at the finish line it was Wes taking second, with Ned and Martin finishing less than 2 seconds behind.

Carolina RC Complex has some of the best facilities and racing in the US, let alone in our own backyard. A big thank you goes out to Donnie Burnett, for hosting the series and to Dave "POD" Aljoe and his bride for all their hardwork to help see this series succeed. The competition stepped it up on our second visit, and personally I can't wait until next year.
