Yeah, VBC Lightning 12 - ran it for the first time today at Valkaria. Really fun to drive, just put it down and it was pretty good, but I am sure that it will be great once dialed in. There was a lot of interest once people saw it run, so they might actually have a few people at their club race. The other thing that I like is all of the WGT electronics transfer right over.

Thanks for the replies and great info. After looking up some of these items, things have seemed to get a tad bit more complicated.. lol I'm thinking starting with 1/12 Team Associated pan to start. Speed controls seem to have really advanced with the programmers.? WT... Are 1/12 stock or mod motors? What is the battery (man, they have changed a lot too) cell count, voltage, run time... ? I'm looking for a charger also. Something user friendly since I'm already feeling a bit overwhelmed. I'll definitely be hitting the track to get a better idea. Thanks again for your patience and replies.

1/12 scales use 1s (1 cell) 3.7v Lipo Batteries. Most people use a 5500mah or greater battery. We use 13.5 brushless motors with a "blinky" (non-timing) ESC in 1/12 scale. So you won't have to worry about programming the ESC. The only class that we race where you would need to program timing in the ESC is Mod Touring.
Most current chargers seem to be pretty good. I think the charger I use was discontinued but it's similar to the Duratrax ICE. It's simple and gets the job done.

ROAR's list of "Blinky" (Non-Timing) approved Speed Controllers: http://www.roarracing.com/approved_non_timing_escs.php

Next lesson oh wise ones:

Hobby Wing has a Xerun 90amp ESC with a 13.5T brushless motor and programmer. Will this be good? When would I consider the 120amp ESC? Are 13.5T considered "stock" motors and is there much difference in performance by brand? If there is differences, recommendation? Thanks again. I hate to have to buy twice when I get the wrong stuff.

I have a poopload of questions but don't want to kill you guys all at once.

For 1/12th scale, you will want to get the 1S speedo. As for the motor, I would get a Team Powers motor, they hold up to heat really well, it is a good all around motor. Can't go wrong there.

What is a 1s? Who makes it? Can't seem to find it...

Thanks for the help.

Ok, dumb question, is there other companies that offer 1S? It seems to be a standard and not a name. Is that correct?

Not a dumb question. Hobbywing makes a 1s 3.1 120amp. That is the way to go. One of the best out there, very popular and great price. 1s stands for 1 cell.

Honestly I don't know. I go for the most amps. That 1s is the way to go though for 1s
