EA welcome to FLA. We will have info on Saturday practice soon. It will be open but I want to find out when it will be ready for some practice for blowing, etc. We also should have some AC pits open for practice... we have a room for pitting that is AC trackside! Check our local board for more info.

Here is our weekly race recap by REDKEVIN!!!

Thirty-Two Racers vs. Mother Nature
Racers Win!

Bradenton, FL (07/29/07) Threatening clouds rolled in
early at MTR Sunday but that didn’t keep the racers away. Thirty-two racers showed up to put on another fantastic show at Mike Boylan’s world famous flat concrete bullring. Some drivers decided to step aside from the normal classes and start their own Stock motor “DOG Day” money race warm-up session. The well known road racing hot shoe and helicopter pilot David Croy was at the helm of the mic while Mr. Boylan brushed up on his flagging skills as the afternoon’s honorary flagman. A slight tinkle from Ma Nature came upon the facility just as the first heats rolled onto the grid. The officials decided to hold off the start letting nature take its course. The fine Manatee County concrete dried quickly after the brief drippage and the races were a Go. A second heavier shower moved in during the break between the number two and three heat races forcing about a one hour delay in the action. After the three qualifying heats were finished Tyler Noel, Robert Trask, Gene Connell, Tony Borruso, and Rich Baran were all credited with Top Qualifier spots.

ARCA Stock was the first Main to the grid. After bad luck all afternoon, Kevin Fox started on the outside of the front row and led the first four laps out of the gate. Fox was then overtaken by Erik Crosby who held the point until Lap 10. Douglas Dobbs took the top spot from Crosby and never looked back even with a close challenge from Tyler Noel. There was very close racing between the Top Four but Dobbs brought home the win over Noel and Danny Charles.

IROC 4300 was next to be announced to the grid. All three cars entered would make the call. Kenzo Bartuccio made it back to the track, but it seemed as if he picked up Robert Trask’s gremlins from two weeks ago as issues would keep Bartuccio from hardly making a full clean run all afternoon. Meanwhile, Trask’s car was back on track after shaking the gremlins and it was hooked up for the Main. Trask would battle with last time out 4 race winner Jim Cukla as they both seemed to have their rides on a rail all race long. Cukla would pick up another win over Trask and the early exit of Bartuccio.

The aforementioned “DOG Day” warm-up class was the third of seven Main’s. Race Officials would decide to run this race 90 laps and would start by the official “DOG” green flag from Boylan. Mike Dispenza was the quickest on the trigger leading the first 26 laps before David Preston would pick up the top spot and carry it all the way to the lap ninety mark. Every car stayed on the lead lap until Lap 62 when Dispenza was lapped by Preston. Very close battles to the checkered between all competitors but Preston picked up the pro-stock victory over Top Qualifier Connell and Doug Miller.

HOOTERS B-Main would follow the pro-stock class with Ron Messinese leading the first two laps after the tone before being passed by Jeff Wilkes. Wilkes would battle with Tyler Noel before lapping him on lap 20. Wilkes would stay out front to pick up the victory over Noel and Messinese.

The much anticipated race of the afternoon was called to the grid, HOOTERS A-Main. Five of the six cars on the line-up sheet pull 58 laps in the qualifying heats. Pole sitter Jeff Maturo would lead the first four laps before Greg Simmons got around him. Simmons would keep that important number one spot until Lap 35 when Maturo would regain the lead. That would Greg Walsh close in on Simmons; the two would hold a fierce battle swapping the runner-up spot while Maturo checked out. Walsh would finally reach the rear deck lid of Maturo coming down to the wire, finally giving every ounce of effort to pass Maturo He would clip and spin off the Turn One pipe allowing Troy Pirez Jr. to steal the runner-up spot. Jeff Maturo would pick up the victory over Pirez Jr., and Walsh.

Nextel B-Main would see three cars lineup on the grid. John Houser would lead early from the pole. Paul Schaub and Ross Bartuccio would play bumper tag early in Turn One giving Houser an even bigger lead. He would lead until lap 33 when his machine made an uncharacteristic hard right turn into the pipe. That handed the lead over to Schaub with Bartuccio in tow. Schaub would take the win on his own lap with Bartuccio and Houser rounding out the field.

The Nextel A-Main was a strong field with unofficial 19-turn lap record holder and Top Qualifier Rich Baran starting shot gun on the field. Pole sitter Tin Man would take the lead, until Mike Haney would move by for the top spot. Haney, who seemed to get the bad luck off his side, would maintain a strong lead until a slight mistake in Turn Four handed the lead to Baran. The camo car was still hooked up and out front for the remainder of the race. Separate battles were being settled throughout the pack all the way down to the stripe. Rich Baran picked up another 1st place plaque. Mike Haney regained his composure to finish behind Baran and in front of Tin Man.

Congratulations to all winners this afternoon. Another Sunday filled with great racing. Remember to always tune into the Live Racing Webcam and Results when not at the track and keep on top of continuous racing chatter, news and updates all on www.rcthunder.net, as well as www.myspace.com/foxco_smr for race recaps and updates.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for August 5. Thanks to Windemere Homes, Meridith Group Inc, Parrott’s Custom Cabinets and other fine friends of MTR “The DOG Day of Summer” will take place with an estimated $500+ to win the A-Main. All in one class, all with handout stock motors. See the website for more information.
