I will let Jeff or Troy from Fantom correct me if Im wrong, but I believe that no one really "makes their own" LiPo packs. Everyone purchases them from a select few suppliers who build the packs for each company. I think that Fantom orders their custom built packs from the same sources that companies such as SMC and Thunder Power get their LiPos from. An example of this would be Kokam, who Orion purchases all of their packs through.
the interesting bit is, whoever makes the SMC's and TP packs.....which I gather are 2 different manufacturers, who else do them make them for?
I would like to buy a pack made by these 2 manufacturers to see if they are just as good as the marketed brand names, such as SMC & TP.
Hello,
Basically, what REVO-Beat-U said is correct. There are numerous Li-Po manufacturers in China, however, in our opinion there are only about 5 of them that produce the high-performance Li-Po's suitable for RC racing applications. There are RC companies selling the cheaper stuff not produced by the top 5 manufacturers, but all of the reputable racing companies, i.e. Fantom, Thunder Power, SMC, Orion, Trinity, etc. are getting their Li-Po packs and/or Li-Po cells from one of these top 5 manufacturers.
now regarding the motors, do trinity make their motors, or does some other chinese manufacturer make the motors and sells them to trinity/fantom/and any other company that has a motor based on the trinity's?

Long story short, Trinity has the exclusive import rights, for the U.S., for the Duo based motors. These motors are designed and manufactured in China. Trinity imports them and sells them either branded as Trinity or sells them to OEM customers such as Fantom, etc. It basically comes down to what company you want to support.

Hope that clears things up.

Considering Thunder Power have all of the same spec batteries as Fantom(3300,4300 and 5400 in 25C as well as 3200 and 5000 in 40c) and they look the same except to label, I think its an easy one to work out.
Since the TP5000 40C have been around they have been regarded as the best in the business by many top drivers and also achieved many wins. It now looks as though Fantom are also able to offer the best Lipo's available.
Now when do you think we will see some 50C lipos hit the market?

50C lipos are probably a ways off. Not that the technology isn't there, but rather their cost would be too high for the r/c market at this point, and also 50C lipos are not really practical for r/c (other than from a marketing standpoint), because 20C to 40C lipos already provide more than enough performance for today's cars, motors, etc.
