Questions?? Comm Diameter

Can anyone tell me to what diameter can you cut a comm to before the armature is no longer any good? I have several in the .27-.28 range and was wondering how much more can I cut before it falls apart.

When you make a cut and see a little dark spot of plastic appear in the middle of a segment, it's time to toss it.

Default COMM. SIZE

I have seen People Take them down past that. It also depends in how big it was when it was new. has the Motors ever really been HOT?????

Default re comm size

years ago we did some experminting with a couple different comms depending on the size here is what we found from 2 different Reedy comms and a Epic.

discard at
Reedy lrg comm 360 + a little push
Reedy small comm 270 + a little push
Epic 268 push 265

as stated above in a post quit when you see a little black spot or start seeing the edge of the segments chipping it's done for sure. how ever I've seen motors with the comm at discard just scream with the brushes seated and contoured also. hope this helps I ended writing all of this down in the lid of my lathe box for safe keeping LOL

Hey PENQUINMAN thanks for the post. I have a couple of epic motors in the low 280 range and was wondering how much more use I could get before switching to brushless. Since I have been taking about 005 per cut this will give me about 2 more cuts per motor before thrashing.
