Default IOn 10.5 vs. good 19t????

Is this right???
Old set-up = Novak GTX+ Komodo Pro 19t geared at 87/21 in a T3 on a carpet oval.

New set-up = Novak GTB+ Ion 10.5. I had to gear the 10.5 with a 81/26 to get the same speed as my 19t..? Thats a big change in final DR.

Everything else stayed the same tires, batts. (lipo) truck set-up.

Ion motor temp never over 95 degres. Does this seem right to anyone? Is the Ion 10.5 more like a good 27t? I've been in the hobby a long time so it's not somethin simple like speedo set wrong, a drivetrain issue, batt. problem etc. Any help would be great. Thanks

Almost any 10.5 will out perform a good 19t. They need a lot more gear than a 19t. You need to go up on the gearing if it only temped at 95 you got a ways to go.

The Ion Trinity Based motors need to be geared a lot higher then the norm.

I ran a 10.5 in my truck and geared it 78/26 for Off-Road and it was getting up around 145*. I would look at something similar to that for Carpet Oval.

Adam is right about the performance. Most of my 13.5 motors will run right with any 19t motor.

go to a 30 or so pinion... you haven't even scratched the surface of that 10.5 yet. Brushless motors are geared a lot different than brushed.

Thanks, you can't fit a 81/30 combo in a T3 but i know what you mean get around a 2.7 ratio

I raced a T3 on a bullring carpet oval, 77 laps in 4min, avg about 3.0 lap time. I was using a 13.5 and geared it 69/31. You shouldnt gear a 10.5 that high but brushless needs a lot of gear. Depending on the size of your track maybe start at a 75/27 or so.

With the stock and outlaw stock brushless motors I would go to a 75 or 78 tooth spur. Fantom has a great final gear ratio chart on their website to gear their motors. I've tried both spurs with great results. Don't use the lower geared spurs with modified motors though. Try to keep your temp below 150 and keep those bearings oiled. I'm running a 78/28 with the 17.5 and its staying below 130.

I always gear my motors according to temp. Your motors shold never get over 170 degrees. If your only running at 90 degrees I would gear up. The ion does provide a ton of torque.
