vta
I love how it sounds like everyone want to go fast – but when giving the opportunity to run an OPEN (any motor, any roar approved battery (3 cell?)) sedan no one shows.
I hate putting people in groups or categories but of well
VTA is a slow class and with the 1 cell lipo push it will get SLOWER. If you look at last week I (the slow guy) was 2 tenths slower than Neal (fast guy). At the Duluth Rumble Andrew was 2 to 3 tenths slower on the big track with no changes. So what is the point if a “slow” class gets “slower” and if going FAST is the key you should not care about what happens in the slow class.
If you want to go faster go ahead race something that goes faster if you do not want to race a slower class don’t.
In the end I am glad we all can have the OPPORTUNITY to make a decision on the classes we would like to run. As for the future - positive input, ideas, and opinions may be the beginning of the next step.

Driftdreamer06, What is your real name, I was there wednesday there were no open sedans for me to run with number one. Number two my post was my opinion of not wanting to slow them down more. Number three VTA is not about a single best lap time, it is about being consistant lap after lap and not hitting stuff. Number four you were 2 or 3 tengths faster then Andrew?

The other point to consider with going to 3 cell nimh or single cell lipo is, now the cars get more complicated, as you pretty much HAVE to run a voltage enhancer for radio reliability, a capacitor in the line isn't gonna cut it... Seems like the point people are trying to make is, no they don't want the cars faster in VTA, but they sure don't want them slower... What is the national trend, are other groups doing this??
#37
Jeff nothing more complicated. Duluth I ran same car just single cell. Jess is running a single voltage booster.
Reality check is that round cells are limited lifespan in the rc world and we have to progress. We do not need a second sedan class so a hair slower with identical race feel is what is best. We have fast classes. 12th and sedan.
I am excited to get the sedans rockingbon wed.

i'm really excited about the vta 1s lipo class. bottom line is that lipos require less maintenance, are more reliable, and are cheaper overall. and from what i understand, they are only slightly slower than 4 cell.
also, when we start running a 12th scale lipo, roar is approving this, we can use the same packs across both cars.

Here is some positive. All of this chatter (myself somewhat to blame) is all facilitated by the fact we have the opportunity to now race year a round in the twin cities metro with multiple track locations. We are so so lucky! Let's please not forget that.
I think the reason that this is so tough is that all of us are trying to choose, prepare, and align ourselves for the best RC experience possible.
Fact 1 12th and VTA were the most popular classes last year.
Fact 2 Let's not screw that up. (Paraphrased from Andrew)
So many people complained about not having Lipo solutions last year. Now they are in front of us. Let's take advantage!
Personally, slowing classes down just makes driving all that more important. A good driver can make a slower car faster than an average driver. This is good for building skill and aptitude with the setup of the cars.
Man, what a great hobby!

We had a lipo solution for last year in VTA, but it got outlawed.... Cars for most will be more complicated on 1 cell- 3 nimhs, not everyone runs a reciever boost cell or voltage booster, now they will HAVE to I believe... Just playing devil's advocate here, no easy solutions to all these things, some want simple, no brushless VTA, some want national rules followed, others want something different alltogether, the 12th scale with lipo is it's own can of worms, two new seperate classes, or run together and have one be clearly better or worse, kind of like VTA last year... Pretty soon all will make the "A" main and maybe win it, either thru so many classes, or handicaps, or some other reason.... All for bowling trophies or fancy towels!!

All this discussion is really cool. I have my own preferences for what I would prefer and all that, too.
But to add to ABSpeed's comments, let's keep things in perspective.
The reality is that I've only been doing this since November, but I can't think of ANYBODY on this thread who hasn't dumped a bunch of money in one car, only to sell it or otherwise stop running it in the time since I started running. (Except maybe Andrew...which somehow seems the most odd of all ) We all complain about having to buy new equipment. But then we all do it anyway.
Class stability is a certainly good thing, but things need to evolve some times. The only 100% guarantee is that, if we forget that we're all here to hang out and have fun, we'll all have nowhere to play.
Let's continue to have a good debate about what classes we should run. But at the end of the day, let's pick a small number of classes, come to agreement, and GO RACING. Quit talking about how you're going to boycott this club or stop running that class if the rules don't work out exactly the way you want.
I seems clear we need at least one fast class for the skilled drivers that think they can hang on. It also makes for good spectating. And we obviously need at least one low-speed, reasonable-cost class for people to get started in. Funny enough, the fast guys seem to like the challenge of running that class too. Fill out with one or two more in-between to meet different needs, and we're done.
My opinion: If you really want KISS, just pick your classes, go with the ROAR rules, and stick a fork in it.

Excellent job running the race Andrew, looking forward to the opportunity to run my VTA car week in and week out instead of just once a month. Thanks to the other drivers for putting up with my less then stellar driving skills,I didn't crash you on purpose.
See you next week Scott.
