Default XRay X12 2019 vs 2020

I hope this is the right place to post this. I see I can get a 2019 version of the X12 for $225 which is $100 off. Are the changes to the 2020 version make it worthwhile to spend the extra $100?

Unless you want to run a micro servo, and even then it is probably better to pick up the new servo mounts. I have the 2020, but I only got it because I sold my 18 at the end of last season. There were a few nice updates from the 18, but the cars drive pretty much the same. I would say the 19 would be just fine.

I do like the sidelink hangers on the 20. Prevents some rubbing. The new shock mount position rearward seems good too. Those were beneficial in stock for me. My mod car is an 18 and I am happy with it as well. You can always upgrade later piece by piece if you want.

Get 2019, bigger area for electronics and much cheaper. Use the 100usd difference for tires

I still run a stock 18 with a spool in 17.5 and have no problem keeping pace.

Thanks everyone. I bought the 2019 US version for $225. I was thinking of running this ESC/Motor combo:
HWA38020241 - Hobbywing XR10 Justock Sensored Brushless ESC/SD G2.1 Motor Combo (17.5T)

You need a 1S esc but there are ways to make that Justock ESC run on 1S... Otherwise look at the XR10 Stock spec 1S

That motor is not competitive either but if you're just starting out, it should be fine.

Wow thanks Dan. I didn't notice that it's 2 to 3s. Thank you

I don't need to be competitive as I'm just starting out. I can work on that later.
So maybe this motor and ESC then:

That ESC is good. The motor, for the same money, you can get the SMC lowrider motor on clearance. It will be a better motor than that Hobbywing.

Might consider the next model up Esc from HW. I just blew one of those up, and it was never ''quite right'' for most of it's life. And it's bottom case half was plastic, not aluminum. If I wanted a plastic case, I would have bought a Tekin.

My SMC version of the pro Esc's are working great. I think that the SMC was the same esc as this:

I think I'm going to try a Tekin again, for 1s. At least I'll have someone to send it to, when it nukes. SMC has no 1s Esc's on their website anymore.

I have used the XR10 Justock with a 17.5/13.5T motor without a booster, and it works without issues.

I run only asphalt in hot PHX az. I was considering the new gear diff. Any issues you see with that on asphalt?

Wow thanks everyone. I’ll look into those motor and esc recommendations.

anyone ever use orca esc’s? They look very similar to some of those hobbywing units.
