Can anyone tell me why someone would choose these over their car's kit specific dampers/shocks?

No idea, I wouldn't see any reason, unless they're considerably less expensive than the OEM shocks....

They are a bored out big bore shock with larger pistons than the curent big bore shocks than come with the Xray, Yokomo etc. The shock body is also tapered at the top.

Does anyone know the exact dimensions? Inside diameter, outside diameter, length?

All the manufacturers current short (20mm spring) shocks have an ID of 11.2mm. I would wager a guess that they are 11.5mm with a slight chance of being 12.0mm ID.

Would love to know for sure though!

But would you expect them to be longer than existing short shocks, requiring longer springs?

I would say it's hard for most to venture out and buy $60-$100 non manufacture shocks, hoping for a better result but.. hey you never know.

They are kind of like xray PSS, but with a normal piston, no 'extra' part floating around inside. Also VERY high quality.

but keep in Mind that You only buy the alloy parts.
No plastic parts from AXON such as pistons, ballcups.
