Default VBC MonoBelt

A little weekend creation
https://goo.gl/photos/oyQMs7siEr1An7HK7

Right after my TA07 hit the track, the touring car minimum weight limit dropped to a level expensive to achieve for my beloved Tamiya chassis. I still had quite a significant investment in VBC touring cars so I wondered if I could take the best of the TA07 and replace the worst of my Ghost/Wildfire (a very frustrating to work with motor mount). This is the result. The TA07 single belt system practically dropped right in with very little modification. If new FF17 vertical upper deck hardware fits then I'll really have something

Main question: Is it better?

Well, first race is this Friday. TA07's are FAST as most racers report in the TA07 thread but my VBC/Tamiya hybrid for sure solved the weight issue of the TA07 and the frustrating motor mount issue of the old Ghost/Wildfire. I wouldn't declare this hybird chassis optimised but it wouldn't take much to do so if it proves worthy.

You created an updated TA05. Pretty cool

Just a heads up. My buddy has a TA07 and it weighs 1360 track ready

The link isn't working for me. Would you be able to upload the photos to this thread? I'm quite curious to see what you've done.

Only 2 parts need to be modified to complete the conversion.
1) One mounting hole in TA07 motor mount had to be slotted or elongated 1-2mm to match the existing VBC Ghost chassis holes. I used a needle file - took like 1 min. (Note that the Ghost motor mount bits that connect to chassis centre line work perfect and I had 2 They are rock solid and the motor mount does not sag due to the motor mass.
2) I cut the stock Ghost upper deck in half down the middle, glued them together and mounted it backwards for battery terminal clearance.
That was it. You can probably do the same modification to almost any touring car using the TA07 parts.

With shorter pulley standoffs I could mount the motor so close to the centre line I might have to cut the shaft to prevent it from hitting the battery. Same goes for motor height - could be as low as a typical touring chassis. I'm really hoping the FF17 vertical deck hardware fits - that would solve the non-symetrical upper deck issue.

Send me a parts list Dave;
I like the look of this!

Well, I have to admit that my first race night with the VBC monobelt was NOT good. However it wasn't the chassis that spoiled my night. I'm 94.7% positive that the erratic chaos that I experienced was caused by a problem with my ESC. It was far too ridiculous to be caused by anything else. My brother has had the same issues with several different chassis and the only common denominator left is the ESC. We'll know for sure next race night.

Default 2nd Race Night

2nd race night was much better. Besides the ESC gremlins which I didn't resolve until the 2nd qualifier, the oil in the rear diff had somehow turned into un-cured epoxy. I popped in another diff and I finally had a race car. Of course when I heard my laptimes I got excited and went for more... clipping the entry into the straight which sent my baby full speed air born head on into wall. Incredibly nothing broke and I finished the qualifier but missed the A-main. Ghost/Wildfire D05 is a durable chassis with V2 or silver plastics!
Later I discovered however that I did not get away unscathed. See pic of bent bulkheads http://redirect.viglink.com/?format=...Ms7siEr1An7HK7
I did test fit the FF17 vertical upper deck which is the next step. It will require a new vertical deck and slight modification of the mounts but very doable.
