My brother and I are still slowly recovering from the diff/gearbox disaster. Running the TA06 solid steel spool with Tamiya driveshafts and FF03 gears finally got the chassis to a race worthy state but corner entry speed/steering was terrible. The car was fast but on our tight track top speed has little value. This week we'll try the TA06 steel bevel gear diff - starting with light diff oil (1000cst) as a learning exercise. If we can carry some speed through the corner then the we won't have to rely on maximum pull out of the corners.

The VBC deliver the power right at the right place and if you run the geardiff too hard you will be moore slow than a midle or soft diff... in my diff I have 2.5M gravity silicone and when I will do the rebuilt I will test 300 000cst and 500 000cst like the manual said

I built the original diffs in both cars with 500,000cst as per the manual but the bevel gears skipped so bad I couldn't evaluate the performance.

It would be nice not to have to throw out this big beautiful hunk of machined aluminum.

I did remove the gasket on the 500,000 cst build but it was too late. I'll get some of the steel gear sets and re-shim but you still need Tamiya idler and top gears. I want the belt drive but all the parts needed are not available it seems.

Just ordered a new FF17!! Got it for $209 shipped!
Think I may go ahead and order the FFTwelve belt conversion for it. After reading through the thread and some of the issues people are having with the steel gears I think it may be best to just start with the belt drive.
Can't wait to get this in and build it.
