is the fan suppose to come on when you flip the switch? or only when it needs it?

That depends on the build date of the N-Power.

Earlier models had the fan that ran constantly. They were later updated with a temperature chip that would only turn the fan on when the unit was warm enough to truly need it.

It's pretty tough from what I remember reading.

You have to peek inside through the holes to see if there is an extra chip attatched to the fan wires.

or

Turn it on, and see if the fan turns on right away, or if it waits a bit before turning on.

I'm sure if you e-mail the Novak guys at [email protected] - if there is any other way to tell the difference, they'd know it.

I think you prety much hit it on the head though, Troy, I have an original(early run) N-Power, & its fan has always run constantly from the moment it powered on, so that makes a lot of sense....
