I am really thinking of getting into f1, looking at either a used 16 X-ray or the new 17. What tire options are available for carpet (black crc) and if I ran a 25.5 motor what gear ratio would be a good start?

Pit Shimizu 571 front and 572 rear is good (Tamiya TCS 1031/1032, and CRC premount). You can try 575 rear soft if you wish but I never had any grip issues with 572 on CRC gray carpet. I like using 574 fronts on gray carpet but it might be too aggressive on black carpet.

You will most likely have to CA the front sidewalls, especially as traction comes up. When I ran a Motiv 25.5, I was geared about 2.4 on a 100ft straight.
