I saw few sponsored guys running 21.5 TC lately and I was under the impression that 21.5 was for the guys who felt 17.5 was too fast for them

You could argue that "sponsored" guys have been running USGT for a long time now. Is it becoming the new "stock" class. In terms of popularity I would say yes.

It's become quite popular here in Florida, mostly independent guys though.

Perhaps some ruling body should put a ban on sponsored guys running it. At our local off-road track and our state series, we have indy stock and pro stock and it surprisingly works really well. On-road could do the same thing, but also incorporate 21.5 and 17.5 or 13.5.

At the Birds this year 21.5 is stock, 17.5 super stock, 25.5 amateur stock so.....

So a marginal gap from stock to superstock and a huge gap to mod. Interesting to see how this works out. The new crop of 21.5 motors are pretty quick but I don't see the point of three classes where two are very close in speed and required skill.

Not quite sure you think theirs a big gap in speed between the 4 classes in tc
Even at Cleveland champs this yr
Vta 25.5 they ran mid 13 sec laps
Usgt 21.5 hot lap was a 12.9
Stock tc 17.5 was 12.2
Superstock 13.5 was 12.0
And mod tc was 11.7
So that puts about a 1/2sec between each class if you remove 13.5

I would say mixed . It has two high-speed infield area and a long strait but had 3 180° comers also

I asked because the more free flowing the track is then there should a greater gap between mod and stock anyway I'm signing up to 21.5 at the birds, 25.5 TC is just toooooo slow for me

I think going to 25.5 for stock, 21.5 super stock & 6.5 mod all in blinky mode would help all the classes grow.

I probably dis mis-speak regarding speed and I was at the Champs and saw exactly what you are talking about. While the spread in lap times seems pretty close the skill required to go from a 21.5 to a 17.5 is IMO much different than going from 17.5 to Mod. That is what puzzled me about the choice in motors. I thought the spread would be a bit more even. I've never even driven a mod car but have played around with a 10.5 in TC and it was pretty quick. Single turn motors have to be complete animals. I want to try one but not sure I can stomach what might happen to my car.

Stupid question time:

What is the fascination with slower racing in the US? Why do mod and 13.5 boosted seem so unpopular?

I can understand 17.5 blinky at club level but 21.5 and 25.5 just seem too slow, especially at national events.
