Default Painting, Backing Candy colours

When backing a candy colour, do I completely paint the backing silver?

After laying a smooth coat of candy paint, yes, back it with silver.

Make sure to let it fully dry between coats.

You can use silver, gold,or even a solid opaque color. Experiment on scrap lexan and you`ll be suprised at what colors you can come up with.

I sometimes use different levels of thickness when I use a silver backing. I will go sort of heavy when I want a solid backing or light when I want a sort of see through finish.

Actually Clint, after you get good at fogging the silver in, you can use a very light coat of silver to get your metallic look, then use opaque white or black to adjust the brightness/darkness of the color.

Another thing to remeber when using candy colors is that the depth or thickness of the candy coat will determine what shade the candy comes out. I love candy blue with about 4 fog coats. If you time it right, on the last coat you can giove it just a little more than a fog, but not enough to run and it will make all of the coats lay down quite smooth. Unfortunately, there's quite a bit of practice and timing involved...

STLNLST, you never sent me pics of the body!!!
