Thanks Joe...
My solution was easier, I'm an idiot.
I couldn't figure out why ride height at the front of the car was exactly 1mm off the rear, with all dimensions being the same. I switched heave shocks rear to front and back again...no dice, the front sat 1mm lower than the rear.
Could only be one thing...
In walking around the manual, I made the front horizontal pushrods 15mm rather than the specified 14mm...just missed it - 1mm off.
Perfect! Ride height and tweak are spot on. Geez...

The 4x has sold in droves and is very popular so far. There are quite a few at the clubs i race at. Everyone is going very well with the car. As Nexus said most people post/ask questions etc on the Serpent 4x Facebook page than here. To be honest that goes for most of the Serpent cars - people prefer to post on Facebook. I think it's just easier and more social than here.

No disrespect at all here, I'm a huge fan of Serpent, loved all my cars. Is this going to be the new Veteq? That car was very innovative but it never really took off from what I can remember.
The 4X looks like a TANK. Pretty tough off the walls per se? How is parts support? I mean if it handles great I'm all for it but how about weight? Parts support?

Odd Q and my deciding factor on a kit as I've invested a ton in gearing. What pitch is the Serpent? What gearing does everyone recommend to start on a 13.5T, 17.5T, and 21.5T? I'm trying to figure out if I have the right gears.
Is the Spur and Motor easy to remove? I'd like to try and get two classes out of the car. I'm done having a car for each class.

On my 4X I use 64p gears but I don't see why you couldn't use 48p gears if thats what you have. You would just need to find a 48p gear with the right mounting holes. As for changing the spur and motor Serpent has made it very easy. The layshaft comes out with two screws and the motor as well with the standard 2 screws holding it to the mount. There should be no need to remove any other parts to change both out.

Serpent sells a complete line of 48P and 64P gears. I run USGT with 48P 69T spur.
A more important point to make...
If you don't pay attention to detail (follow the manual closely), this is not the chassis for you. Similar to the Awesomatix, this is not a beginners build kit.

The 4x is the easiest to change out spur and/or pinion of any 4WD sedan I've owned - there is no top deck unless you add it as an option. Trivial to change gearing.
