The mamba monster 2 is great too. You can still buy them too.

If I was going to spend $260 on an 8s esc, I would definitely not buy that. Unfortunately, there aren't very many ESC's out there that you can run as overkill for 1/8 speedrunning so that you don't have to worry about current limiting or other throttling issues. Alien power or VXP on ebay or MGM are the main contenders. Expensive and little outside information on any of them. I tend to judge a product by the effort they put in their website so MGM wins that category. MGM also has a lot of information about each model of ESC on their website and they offer extra features like waterproofing, dual fans, sensors and programming extras, etc.

I prefer to take the simple route and stick to Castle because of their warranty.

Yeah MGM makes a nice Esc, I've ised several different models in my boats. But they're very expensive and the last set I sent for warranty took 14 weeks to get back

Yea if anything ever happens to my XL2 God forbid, and they don't fix the issues with the XLX, MGM is what I'll be trying! They're expensive as hell and it's somewhat of a gamble but I have seen a couple being used for speed runs with pretty good results, but they are very popular in the RC boat world

"Just a heads-up for you guys. We did find an issue with current limiting on both the MMX and XLX. It has been fixed, and is currently in internal testing. Should be in Beta by the end of the week. This software update should solve the power restriction issue you are seeing. Thanks!"
Yea that's the impression I got from this post

I guess a beta will be next, hopefully a decent upgrade in power.

Strange think, I'm running my mmx on my Yeti XL on 6s lately and didn't have any issue. Lots of power with absolutely no hikups

Yea it's mainly the XLX, I also have the new MMX on a Rustler and didn't notice any change from the MM2, but I have heard guys complaining about the same issues! If there is a power decrease between the two it's nowhere near as drastic as the XL2 to XLX!

The thing is simply solved by delivering the same power as mm2 or xl2 and when get the limits of the older ones it should start the abs brake thing they developed for them to be reliable. And not so soon! Guess that week is a month! But when come it should be good! They did it before well. So this is just an error that needs to be fixed and move on...

I spoke with Joe at Castle today, he said they're currently working on the Mamba X about 2 weeks out on releasing the update for it. The XLX is after the Mamba and he said they're not sure when it will be ready for "alpha" testing let alone "beta". I don't think we'll see that update for at least a couple months. We'll see

There was a beta firmware release today 07/01/16: "Modified a protection feature to prevent power reduction during start in extreme setups."
Anyone test it out? I'm eager to buy an XLX but not if its not working as intended.
