If you want it to run faster a high speed gear set is available from Tamiya.

A 55T spur and 25T pinion will make a silver can pretty fast.

I think you can adapt a TB-02 Spur gear adapter to it and run different spurs.

The spur adapter mod is cheap and simple and all you need is the blue aluminium spur gear adapter from the Tamiya FF-03, part number 54234. You must carefully drill the center hole to the size of the TT-01 shaft and I recommend the use of a drill press to get the hole perfectly centered. Check out the pictures I posted on RCTech.net and look for post #2076 in this TT-01 thread.

Once you have made this modification, you can use any spur gear you like. You must keep in mind that the motor mount is not adjustable and has fixed motor positions for use with the proprietary Tamiya metric 48P gears. If you go with the spur adapter mod and some after market spur gear, you will need to play around with various pinion gears to ensure proper mesh.

It can be tedious but if you want maximum performance and speed it's worth the effort. As your son is only 8, I'd stick with the Tamiya gears for a while longer and drop in a better motor to get more speed. Much easier to do than the spur gear mod.

I think you can also use the spur gear adaptor from the TT02 High Speed Gear Set, part number 54500. No modification needed.

Hi guys.
I need to get the chassis lowered, Im guessing it needs shorter shocks (50mm)
Any recommendedations, something really cheap & strong.
Im considering these, for $9. Seems a good deal.

Any isues running 50mm shocks? Will mini/mo3/m05 sized oil shocks fit ?

We have a house TT-01 class here in Indy.

Everyone that is fast uses the M-series (Mini/M06) shocks. Only way to get the TT-01 close to the 5mm ride height minimum.

The CVA mini shocks are the specified option for the TT-01. You can put spacers inside the body of the shock to further limit travel or to act as droop stops.

One thing to consider are replacement parts, bladders & o rings, available? Even the plastic Tamiya mini shocks have rebuild parts.

I'd have to admit that some of the el-cheapo shocks do have weak shafts that bend too easily, but.....
For $9 I would throw it away & get a new set, rather than rebuild.
Chances are bladders & o-rings from other shocks will fit anyway.
I'll prohably just bent the shafts anyway, so didnt want an expensive set of shocks.

Anywho, I ordered the HKing shocks last night. I'll report back when they finally arrive , 3-4 weeks away.

i just changed my tamiya tt-01 from brushed to brushless and now my gears are making a clicking noise.i did open the diff box and bought new rear diff gears and also a new spur but it still making that noise and it sounds loke the gears are grinding anybody have the same problem?

That's a simple fix. Check the orientation of the motor mount. Each way you screw it into the motor accounts for how many teeth you have on the pinion.

I'm guessing you changed the spur or pinion to a different size and didn't change the motor mount hole position?

Also, some guys at our track go a hold of some other Tamiya pinions that were a different pitch and they didn't mesh properly. Made a helluva racket.

Thats a good way to ruin your spur and pinion gears (been there done that!)
You better mesh them correctly otherwise they won't last too long

ok, i just got a few upgrades and i got to say, WOW!!!! the TT01 doesnt handle high speeds of a brushless motor well at all, so i saught out what to do to make it handle the speed.

before the upgrades: the car handles low speed FANTASTICALLY! but when you go over about 20mph, it just feels like a brick on wheels and the slightest turn will send it into a spin out (or sometimes without) and running it on a large track felt like driving a car made of glass. i had to drive it super carefully to keep it under control.

after the upgrades:HOLY COW! i could blast this thing wide open throttle and it would track straight as an arrow and extremely predictably. i never raced my TT01 before because i knew i couldnt push it very hard without worrying about losing control and crashing all over the place. but now, i will deffinately be racing this against other much more expensive kits. i actually TRIED to spin it out and it wouldnt. its almost like the car kept begging for more speed!

so what upgrades did i get?
