Well, we took the durability question to the extreme today, no gearing changes whatsoever, put my new 2S lipo in with the 3000kv 380sized leopard kit....and it was fast....but...there was a 3S lipo sitting there....

Second... The main gear will need an adaptor. This is the FF-03 gear adaptor that has had the center drilled out to fit the TT-01 shaft. I also took a pin to put in there and shaved it to perfectly fit the width of the shaft. This is VERY important as your gear goes over the top of the pin and helps hold it in. First you put the gear on, then slide the adapter, then slide the pin in... then you attach the gear to the adapter. It sounds complicated but works pretty easily once you get the parts.

I am using the Tamiya metal motor mount and have an 81T spur matched to a 45T pinion, all 64 pitch. My FDR drops to 4.68. I plan to run a TCS race this weekend with the TT-01 using this mod in GT2. I'm limited to the silver can motor and with the lower FDR I may have a better chance against the TB-03, TA-05 and TA-06 sedans. We'll see.

Very nice! Glad the idea worked for you. I had great success with mine and got it down to 3.89 at one point with the custom "cam" motorplate. Track just closed down so now I'm sitting with a car and no pace to race. I love this site. This is EXACTLY what I wanted to have happen. I want people to use this simple mod and fall back in love with their TT01.

The proprietary gears that Tamiya forces you to use are a PITA and the lowest FDR that is possible without the mods is a crummy 5.11. The fast guys here are in the high 3's and low 4's so that ratio just wasn't going to be competitive. There is also too much slop in the drive train and I'm finding that the spur gear moves around too much and rubs the back of the chassis. This ruins the teeth in the end and the noise increases. More noise = slower speed.
I decided to stick with the Tamiya aluminum motor mount and I'll play around with spur/pinion match-ups to alter my FDR. I'll try the 4.68 and see how that goes this Sunday.

I ran my TT-01 today at round 4 of the Canadian TCS series hosted by Sutton Aviation RC Speedway and Dynamic Hobbies. After the Saturday practice, I changed my gearing to a 4.24 FDR running a 75T spur and a 46T pinion.
I had decent speed and I was fairly competitive all day. I left the gearing alone and instead focused on my driving line and managing traffic. We ran 4 heads-up heats where I finished 2nd three times and 3rd once which I feel is a decent result all things considered. This was my first time ever running this chassis.
I always thought of the TT-01 as a street basher, but with the spur adapter mod the car comes alive and can be raced competitively. It would be great for VTA or club spec racing.

My TT-01 was able to keep pace in the GT2 class against some tough competition from TA-05 and TA-06 sedans and I was pretty pleased.
I've noticed that there is a white nylon gear diff and spur set available for this car, part number TAM51004. Is there any advantage to these parts over the stock black plastic kit stock items?

I have mine oriented so that the spur gear attaches from the rear. I did need to file the end of the adapter slightly so that the holes in the shaft and adapter aligned.
I ran a 75T spur / 46T pinion combination giving an FDR of 4.24 on silver can motor. The day was extremely hot but my motor came off the track at 120 degrees.

Im thinking their might be a shortage of ff03 spur gears adapters now lol
steve is this a silvercan only car? how well can this car handle? are you going to try any larger motors?
this car just looks fun...so i would think it would be a great parking lot ride?
