Which equalizing tray to choose?

hi guys im currently using spintec for discharging of my cells, so any equalizing tray to recommend? will indi 030 work fine for it? or i need some others?

Deznuts05 12-06-2005 10:16 AM

my pit buddy got the 0-30 and after one time use he was very impressed... the only thing is that I feel the are very rough on the cells... if you already have the sprintec I'd get something like a Smart tray or a Battery Doctor, both are very good.

I use 2 different ones.
Novak Smart Tray(I like this one better)
Much More Zero.

Both are able to dead short if need be.
The indi Zero Thirty looks like a nice unit also.

Go with the Tekin Battery Doctor or the Novak Smart tray.

another point for the Tekin Batt Doc would be if you race 12th scale you can tray 2 packs @ once :)

hmm...so do i equalize it right after i finish discharge or i equalize them before the next charge?

YES and Yes...

here are the steps from a fully charged pack

1. Use fully charge pack
2. Discharge GFX Turbo 35 etc
3. Tray till next charge
4. Charge then use.
5. Repeat 2-3 per pack don't over use nimhs

Well not exactly!

you want to equalize, charge, race and then take down at 30-35 amps to .09 per cell and store.just remember with the new 3800's you want to go straight from the tray as SOON as the lights go out to the charger, and if your going to store for more than a week put a half charge in them for more than that put a full charge in them and store.

theisgroup 12-06-2005 11:26 AM

i don't really think of the 0-30 as an equalizer. at least not unless you want your cells down to 0volts.

Hyper1 12-06-2005 11:29 AM

OKAY! here we go again, the 0 30 IS an EQ tray it does not go to 0 until about an hour or so after the lights go out, that's why we recommend you take the cells off as soon as the lights go out.

theisgroup 12-06-2005 11:42 AM

yes, but it is not an equalizing try. i have the unlatch the entire 3 cells when one of the lights go out. if I don't then the one cell that the lights have alrady gone out one is going to brought down furthen then the other. as I understand equalizing trays bring all cells down to the same point. this tray does not do that until all cell are zero.

How is the indi zero equalizer? Is this any good? I already have a 0-30 and just wanted something cheap to equalize t he cells.

Any idea y is it recommened to tray the 3800s on the 20/30A tray before charging?? its seems like i need the indi 030 and a equalizing tray for maintaining the 3800s.

Doomah 12-06-2005 02:03 PM

rayspeed exceed is great. equilises down to .09v and then does conditioning if you want

they usually use higher dc amp rate to simulate the amp draw when racing. it is not recommended to bring the volts down to 0 for IB3800s. it is very controversial when it comes to battery care coz everybody got their own VOO DOOs. i just use 10amps dc rate them tray em to 0.9v/cell to store. then tray em again before charging.
