more importantly (in my eyes) has anyone really been waiting 2 years for this system?

Sorry, i don't know when its coming, but its just that I don't know how it will possibly change eletric racign in the short term (two years from now)

Well, you can buy one motor and it will last alot longer than a brushed motor. There is no brushes to replace, and no comm to wear out and have to cut. It looks like orions brushless motors may be better, they have motors that perform like 8,10,and 12 turn brushed motors. Hmmm, but at what timing!?

Seriously though, I’ve seen Novak testing it at SoCal Raceway over the past few months so it has to be getting close.

The orion speed controll looks about as long as the motor, but about the thickness of a couple of wires. (fat wire...)

I’d say it’s slightly bigger than a Cyclone. There is a pic of it in the December issue of RC Car magazine on page 18, BTW.

Orion has been there on the same nights and times to do some testing as well and based on what I've seen, the Orion one is looking better.

Granted, this is all based on observation and opinion but Orion's brushless motor test consists of Mike Truhe running his XXXS until he strips the pinion gear (!?!?) out at 7-8 turn like speeds. It's ready for primetime, IMO.

Novak has had Tyree Philips driving his XXXS, another engineer down there, and I've even see Bob Novak come by all at once working on it and theirs was running more like a 10-turn at best.

Of course, I don’t know the exact specs of who was running what but that’s what it looked like.

Pitcrew, I believe that the speed control varies the motor timing in order for it to work its best. This is the reason why its expensive to make these speed controls with as many steps as a regular esc. It is easier to set one time and make the speed control only one speed.

Yeah, it just wasn’t as fast as the Orion brushless. I think that’s why they’re calling their first one the “Super sport” or something like that rather than “Here’s the product that will change racing forever even though it would lose a heads-up race to an old-school 9-turn”.

Let me put it this way, I certainly hope it will be faster than what I saw for the sake of all the people that spend $300 to get one.

i maybe way off the money here, but iwas under the impression that the orion has ceramic magnets, every other brushelss manufacturer uses rare earth magnets... which are much much better in a brushless setting

my local track is small so I think a 10 turn mod would be way too much. I just hope its smooth and there is no cogging affect.

I hope Novak goes with a black can. I would hate to put a purple motor can in my tc3 or XXX-S!

Novak needs to update their website and RCCA did not have a pic of the speedo.

Novak. They pulled there pics from the web site and no updates. Bad business if you ask me. Heck, when are they going to post a release date. THey must of went back to the drawing board.
