Peltier "SuperCooler"
Hey guys, Here's the latest version. I've been working with the guys testing the new Losi touring. There was no way to get the cold side motor clamp to the motor. This is a model that the car can sit on a "saddle" to get to the motor when they are buried in between the bulkheads. This way they are accesable from underneath. This picture is of an Xray (since the Losi guys didnt want me to post any pics of there new car). I have also adapted it to fit Tamiya's. Let me know if anyone's interested. I may be making a small run of these inverted fan/heatsink saddle "SuperCoolers"

Guys, when playing with these, you have to be carefull. Making the motor too cold will ruin it. Plus, it is not beneficial if items other than your motor are getting cool. Be carefull with all electronics and chassis and parts. All you want too cool is the motor...that's it!!
When used correctly, these are very beneficial!! I have been playing with these for a while now and they work. Keep the motor above freezing and you'll be safe. The ones that I make currently get no colder than 40 degrees. That's as low as I want to go!

I've experimented with regulating voltage and amperage, but the peltier is a passive device. It will pull only the amps needed, given the voltage supplied. The peltier will operate with as little as 4.5VDC. Then you run into issues with fan speed. The fan wont run with less than 6VDC. I've tried 5VDC fan but they are expensive(end user cost prohibitive). Soooo.... I've found that time on the motor is the easiest and least added cost(none) solution. I'll put the "SuperCooler" on the motor and check it every few min. with temp gun 'till I reach desired temp.(aprox 25 to 30 degrees"F"). On cold days it will reash that range much quicker than on a hot day. At the Mazda cup air temp was in the hign 90's and I was hitting the start line with motor temps around 35 degreesF, but it took almost an hour on the unit to get there.

Quick question, any chance you could make a strap that would attach the cooler to the motor so you could move the car around some without the cooler coming off easily. I'd like to be able to work on the car while cooling the motor, just a thought, I am sure I could figure something out but if it was built into the design it would probably be alot better.
