Default Touring car wiring

Is 14 gauge wire usually large enough for touring car with 17.5 blinky?

There was a heated debate about this not long ago. I personally would say go for 12, but keep in mind good connectors and proper soldering probably makes more of a difference. 17.5 blinky is a material battle more than any other class, so even details do matter.

14 ga perfectly fine for blinky. Making sure you drivetrain is free would make a much bigger difference. 12ga is fine too. Go with whatever i more flexible for your install or lighter if you can afford to lose any weight.
Id prob run 12ga for power wires as they are typically longer though.

12 on the battery and 14 on the motor will do fine. The motor wires only carry current for 1 phase of the motor and the battery wires carry current for everything all together.
In pan cars we typically use 16ga wire for the motor to provide better flexibility and there is pretty much no reduction in performance.

The resistance of the motor wires is just as important as the resistance of the battery wires if one is concerned about getting maximum voltage to the motor. All of the current from the battery that goes into the motor passes through the motor wires, but only two at a time. For 1/3 of the time during each revolution, each motor wire is essentially dead weight.

But that also means that the motor wires won't get quite as warm, since they only carry current two thirds of the time. So if one is only concerned with wire temperature, then you would be correct.

Like was mentioned earlier, in pan car (13.5 boosted), I run 16g to motor and 14g to battery, and see no performance hit. I would assume the same would be said for TC, although it wouldn't be necessary like in a pan car.

For something with as low a current drain as 17.5, you 16awg would be more than enough.

You could always go with TQ 13AWG wire for the compromise. The problem is getting bigger wire to fit on some speed controls. I see absolutely no need for 12AWG especially when my SP ESCs come with 14AWG. I would assume they know what would work better.

I ran 16ga trying to make a car lighter. No real difference in performance. Makes wiring clean and short.
