I'm having a problem with it fitting in the stock battery location. Do I just take out the stock plastic pieces for the stick pack?

Yeah pretty much take out all the stick pack braces. For the center brace, you can take it all out or flip it so that the "hump" faces the motor side instead of the battery side.

Is anyone still using this car for any club races?

This cars layout can keep up with all the new generation cars. The problem is stripping gears. The way Tamiya designed the drivetrain makes gear stripping guaranteed. And because of this extremely unreliable layout. Tamiya went to a 3 piece layout starting with the Evo4. You will hate racing the Evo3 the moment you tap anything.

Ran my Evo3 back in my TCS days. It required very careful shimming of the gears to "minimize" stripping. But even then, it was not guaranteed.

It stripped because of the direct center shaft. If you can stop the shaft from back and forth movement. You'll stop stripping teeth. I have maybe 2 evo3's and a TB02r plus a lot gears. If anyone needs them. I will sell everything for $25 plus shipping. I think I still have 1 metal gear box also for it

I installed the TB04 spool into my TBevo3. I obviously had to fit the Evo3 one way gear to it, instead of the TB04 one. (They have a different teeth count)

I removed 0.2mm of shims (all evo3 gearboxes are slightly different sizes as they are plastic) it spins freely but I have not ran it at the track yet.

I will post pics etc on my site when I have time.
