I'm running rubber on carpet, any setup suggestions?
Hey mabucci,

I have a good high bite carpet setup for rubber tires. I'll have to dig it up. I think racenut posted it on this thread a while back.

Jason C,

It's the rear diff that is melting, this is on carpet with foams. I've never had a problem melting them on asphalt.

I found it:

Carpet rubber setup:

Front:

Tamiya white
60W oil / 3 hole piston
middle hole on shock tower
6MM under camber link
middle hole for camber link
yellow sway bar
A/A blocks
stock spacer under front A block
2MM droop
1 degree toe out
-1 camber
5MM ride height
SOREX 28R's / HPI red

Rear:

Tamiya blue
50W oil / 3 hole piston
3rd hole in on shock tower
2MM under camber link
middle hole for camber link
no sway bar
A/D blocks
no spacers under front blocks
3MM droop
-1 camber
5MM ride height
SOREX 24R's / HPI red

EJ - the changes you told me to make increased my lap times .5 sec... thanks I mounted the shocks on the outer most holes and used a 2.5 spacer under the rear upper link.

Aurra and I race at the same track, but I have a slightly different setting. The settings that are different is the front spring rate, oil weight, toe, rear oil weight and camber.

I started with Aurra's setting, but have found that my setting gave me a more neutral feel, and let's me swing the rear of the car around quicker mid corner.

Carpet rubber setup:

Front:

Tamiya Purple (Ultra Hard Spring)
70W oil / 3 hole piston
middle hole on shock tower
6MM under camber link
middle hole for camber link
yellow sway bar
A/A blocks
stock spacer under front A block
2MM droop
0 degree toe out
-1 camber
5MM ride height
SOREX 28R's / HPI red

Rear:

Tamiya blue
60W oil / 3 hole piston
3rd hole in on shock tower
2MM under camber link
middle hole for camber link
no sway bar
A/D blocks
no spacers under front blocks
3MM droop
0 camber
5MM ride height
SOREX 24R's / HPI red

Hey, that's my carpet setup I gave to EJ when I raced at STRC last October.......I did quite well with it. EJ gets all the credit for all my hard work

EJ - Thanks for the motors and Redline Tee

Thanks, it was either the EVOIII, or the "Hi Performance Racing Skill Set", and I chose the EVOIII...

Which one would you have chosen?

UHHH, Jason, how many ring and bevel gears have you gone through already with the EVOIII?
I think that I striped out a set, and I just finished building the car. My car sounds like a Barracuda when I spin the wheels!!!
Why are these gears sooooooooo soft?
Is there a solution to this problem?(I know that Rod strips out the gears too)

Bubbles- Jason has the fix. He hasn't stripped one gear since he used it on his cars that I know of. I still haven't taken the time to type out the instructions. Kinda silly but Tamiya USA doesn't even care that I found the fix. They went to the trouble to build another car, well use another manufactuter's car and call it their own because of the gear problem, and they don't even care that the repair only takes a few minutes and would hardly need any new items. I suppose if they were to market the repair it would require a new driveshaft, pinion gear and front transmission housing or way to shim the play out of the front pinion gear.
