Default fan on motor vs no fan and higher temps and voltage

I was running TC a few years ago with a fan 'behind' the motor, and noticed it only dropped 10 degrees, 15 at most.

a 30-40mm fan consumes lipo energy, how many millamps/amps, I don't know.

Question; do you think there is a significant reduction in lipo voltage running just 1 fan? I know most people run fans now, especially in blinky.

is it just better to get full voltage going to your motor, and letting your motor run 10-15deg warmer?

I had heard in the tekin data logger thread that someone who had ran 2 fans, dropped like 0.3 or something similar volts, just from running the fans. And as soon as they switched it off,the lipo voltage went back to normal.

I havnt had a chance to do any data logging yet, or TC for that matter. Just curious, if I get back into TC again.

run a fan.

blowing between esc and motor works if you have enough free space

I think i calculated i was loosing about 80 mah over 7 minutes with an r1 fan at 8.4 volts.
Just run the fan, they have come a long way in few years.

What brand of fan? A good/quality fan is necessary.

sunon.....they had the best fans available 2-3 years ago, and they are prob just as good as the r1/wtf fans of today.

But yeah, sounds like 1 fan is the way to go.

it's funny how trends go.....not long ago most people were running heatsink/fan combos.....now its just a fan without the heatsink.

Do you just wire the fan directly to the battery leads to get 8.4? I tend to leave mine connected more than just before my run.

I believe my receiver is rated for it (coming from nitro lipo directly to the receiver is fine for it and the servos) but I believe my Orion ESC is only outputting 6v

Not sure about the fan the OP is running but a good fan can lower temps as much as 30F on a warm day for a single 6 minute run.

Heat fade will kill power more than the very tiny voltage loss from the fan.
