the ole "how to discharge batts" thread.. im confused still

well i have done a search and have read so much stuff i wish i never read to begin with,, im more confused now than i was before reading...

i already have a reactor 20 on its way
im guessing all i need now is a tray

i have my eyes on
duratrax 20amp tray
the much more v tray
the indi zero equalizer
the indi 6s

im not sure which item would be best to buy as a combo with the reactor 20
if i get the zero i would probably get 3 of them,,, one for each pack i race with...

now since i dont know which is best for me nor how to USE them , everyone seems to have their own method, i decided i would confuse myself even further and start this thread just so i could shoot myself from all the overwhelming info...

my thoughts..racing stock about once a week, and practicing about twice a week:
-after race discharge with reactor 20 to 5.4volts
-then place on tray (duratrax) until all batts are discharge evenly (equalized) via the lightbulb indicator
-then store on tray to take the pack down to zero (zero equalizer or 6s)
-store packs off tray once zero volt is reached and the day before the race charge slighlty and re-equalize the packs

for practice
-discharge with reactor 20
-equalize the cells on the tray (the duratrax)
-maybe recharge if practice session is extended

i have for praticing
2 non-gp 3300 packs
1 matched fusion gp 3300 pack (old)

for racing
2 gp3300 for quals
1 gp3700 for race main

am i on the right track with how to use the dischargers/trays... with what i mentioned above i would need to buy the duratrax 20amp discharger and 1-3 trays (zero or 6s) or could i get by with the duratrax 20amp by itslef and do each pack seperately
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXHMR5&P=7 this is what im not sure about,,

COMMENTS: Do not leave the cells on the unit for extended period of time as
this will cause the unit to discharge the cells down to 0V which
may permanently damage the cells.
This is used for single Sub C size cells and not intended for use
with assembled Sub C size battery packs.

since the duratrax says the above,, would it be best to get the zero thirty or do i have other alternatives... TRYING TO SAVE MONEY

does the zero thirty have a seperate 0.9v cutoff

THANKS AND SORRY FOR THE LONG POST

oh man, after I finished reading your post, I got confused too. Let me just say this, all you need is a discharg unit(tray or reactor) "I like try" & a charger. All you have to do is discharge the battey to 0v if you using try & then charge it, do not create too much problem out of this, it is very simple process.
P.S. forget about reactor get a Novac or Integy try, 20amp or 30amp.

Man this took me back to my old physics class, hated it!!

This is all I do.
Charge my 3300's at 6 amp then race just after 1 repeak.
Pull battery discharge at 20 amps. Set aside and use other battery.
Then I get the 1st 3300's once it has cooled to touch and charge a 6 amps to run again.
I run each 3300 from 2 or 3 times a day.

Once I am done for the day I set my RACING A MAIN on the try and leave it there until the next week of racing. (cutoff at .7 amps)

I only dead short when I am storing them for a long period of time.

Hope this helps.

Your way seemed like a great way just to much work for me.

the lights go out at .9v and if you leave it in the tray long enuf they go down to 0v

hi, i am looking for a equ tray aswell.... i know the novak smart tray has adjustabe cutoff which is what i need.... just wondering if there is there any other products that are similar (and hopefully a bit cheaper) ;)

I would do the following:

After race, discharge pack to 5.4v and store. Next race day, place pack in tray for 5-10 minutes prior to charging.

well since i dont have my reactor 20 yet,, all i have been doing is trying to equlaize the packs,, and dropping them to zero,,, had a cheap pack which i thought was far from gone,, and i recharged them,, they accepted 3700mah and they are only rated at 3300.. so im stoked.. it had the power to go with it,, going to test out my 3700gp today

but as soon as i get my reactor 20 then i can start training the batts
