I'm choosing Spec R S2 because its cheap and belt driven. Use my Reventon with turbo. Fun, without the big expense.

I might as well classify it as a tarmac rally course. I plan to bring my leaf blower there and blow some of the sand away before I run.

Very cool. I like that its compatible with some R2/Xray parts, and looks to be fairly upgradable (carbon chassis/towers, floating servo mount, DCJ's etc.)

The RGT R2 might be an option. I never looked into it. Looks good.

Me not upgrading the S2. Won't fall into that pit - again.

After all what I did to my cars, I might as well have just bought T4'15, TRF419, etc. and called it a day.

I had fun anyways. I had fun building and upgrading my TA05 V2. I even had to contact a guy who does custom carbon fiber parts to have my EX05 chassis lower deck remanufactured.

For my purpose which is building a trainer car in those conditions, the Spec R S2 would be the wisest choice... Imagine?!? $120 shipped by TQ which to me is the best RC store in the US.

Sample vid of its predecessor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qGuo-oFua4

The fun part? I get to build it from scratch.

Unless anybody out there has a better suggestion to which I am very much open to.

Yep, very good read, thanks!!

Yea, I'm going to look at my budget again tonite/tomorrow. I really like the S2. The Sakuras aren't that prevalent near me. I like the cross compatibility of the Spec-R, RGT, and Xray spares. And it's my first time racing, so I know I have a lot to learn.

Goodluck to us.

We actually both have a lot to learn.

RC is deeper than it seems. Many aspects to it. You'll be surprised. I was...

I hear people saying this a bit, but no one can ever tell me what parts are compatible. Does anyone know?

My bud got one... They set it up and he was faster in it then his 411. But he's going thru the parts like water. I have got my 411 dialed in... Now I just have to get CONSISTANT! It's fast and strong.

I have decided to buy the Spec R S2. Build it stock. Buy spares that commonly break in case I hit those magnetic boards.

I will use a Reventon R ESC w 13.5 motor, a decent servo and battery.

It's my trainer car.

As I mentioned. I will not run my Tamiya cars on that track.

Keep us posted on how it turns out. 97 was last time I had a road car, a tamiya m-class, while it was a tumble queen with its narrow wb, it was a blast to drive. Following these threads has got me interested picking up another road car

I'm pretty sure it's gonna turn out well. This time I can enjoy the fun of driving without the pain of having to spend on expensive parts.

Even if I hit those magnetic boards and break an arm or whatnot, parts wouldn't be that expensive to replace.

In the past, when I used my Tamiya cars on that particular track and ram into a board, it hurts when I destroy my front end. It's like losing your front teeth!

Now no more. My Tamiya cars will be shelf queens and will run on carpet when we eventually relocate.

I had an M chassis before. Yup. It tumbles a lot and yes, it's a blast to drive! Maybe it was my 8.5 turn brushed motor that made it tumble. I was in my 20's at that time and was only concerned with power not giving importance to control. If I remember it right, that was also back in 96, 97, 98s.

Again this article is what made me decide: http://rcdriver.com/rc-driver-budget-touring-car-build/
