Charging pack directly soldered to esc

Charging pack directly soldered to esc
Before I do something stupid,
I picked up this car whose battery connects directly to the ESC (no deans plugs).
Is it safe to just attach my charger with alligator clips to the positive and negative poles of the battery? (I am worried about damaging the ESC)

Hmmm
I see competitors at national events wire direct, I am wondering if they de-solder and re solder with each charge.
I use Deans with all my setups, I am just curious about this option.

i'm assuming that it's a pack with 4mm bullets rather than deans. this is the setup i use and it works great to plug your esc wires directly into the battery. just pull the wires out and use a charging harness like this one:

Can you charge while connected to the ESC, usually yes but if you're unsure of what you are doing then it would be safer not to.

That's correct, it was quite normal to direct solder the ESC leads to the battery when we used NiMH and NiCads. We did unsolder the packs to charge them but remember that each pack was only used for one run per day.
