Just grabbed a Hobbywing V10 in 17.5 to try out this weekend. I've heard good things.

I've run these motors the past few weeks in Tc and 1/12 with great results. I've run both carpet and asphalt too and the motors deffently hold their own.

The motiv 17.5 weighs 157g....very light. Anyone have a weight for the Actinium 17.5?

All things looking positive so far for Motiv motors so far. Hopefully they'll become BRCA approved soon.

For anyone that has tried the Motiv motors, what gearing and timing are you using? Does anyone know how much timing is built into the motor? I ordered the 21.5 motor and just wanted to get a rough idea of where I should start with timing and gearing.

Ver 9 motors can go up on motor timing around 50* on can. Most motors will overheat in the 160* range. R1 motors can take more heat. 160* to 180* is safe. I had a motor fan blow up and at the end of the race my motor temped at 250*. Not good but motor ran strong and I continued to use that motor for another 6 months. Time and gear your R1 motor correctly and you will not be disappointed.
A question Josh, I run on a relatively short track and I'm running the Ultra Premium R1 in 21.5 Spec GT with a designated FDR of 5.5 (or higher) for the class. Air temp at our 5PM start time is around 105 and track temps are close to 150 degrees (I've temped it at 155) and the motor comes off at about 170-175 using a WTF fan. Motor timing is about 35 degrees on the can and at this point I'm not crazy about turning it up beyond 35 until our mains that happen around 11 PM. I didn't change the timing this past weekend for the main and it came off at about 150 (track temp was a tick under 100).

Is there any advice you could provide for my specific situation that could help me reduce the temp and improve the performance, ....short of moving to a cooler climate?

Thanks,

When you get the motor it will come with a sheet of data numbers (timing, resistance, end bell measurements ect.)

The timing on the motiv motors is 0 built in and you can compare the endbell timing to the sheet and it will give you the correct reference.

The Motiv motors look like rebadged Turnigy Trackstars / Reedy motors to me?

They are not. I've had both in my hand at the same time. The trackstar weighs 170g, the motiv weighs 157g. The dyno numbers are very different, too. One made much more torque than the other, and not the one you would expect.

Does anybody have dyno results showing an improvement in motor performance in new motors relative to older stuff? Something like set both motors to 45 degrees of timing and wind it out.

It's just a thought of mine how because the stack length and wire gauge is so heavily regulated the internal resistance of the motor is pretty much set, and that's 99% of power produced.

No one mentioned Tekin Redline motors yet?

Are they any good or do they suck?
