Default Touring/bashing chassis help/advice

I've been in rc for about a month now. My first rc was a redcat blackout 4wd /w brushed motor.

Granite a RTR is awesome but I have some time on my hands. So I want to start a custom project. I'm not into drifting or competing in competions. I just want to design, build and bash.

What touring or on/off road buggy chassis would you suggest I use to base my custom build project from? I want to build it from mostly aluminum.

Can I use different pieces from different cars/vehicles? (I.E. could I use wraith trans and axles but a tamiya TA05 or TA06 suspension?? Remember, this is an example?)

All comment, information and ideas are welcomed and appreciated.. Thanks in advance..

What exactly are you looking to achieve?

Sounds to me like an RTR 1/8 scale buggy or Monster Truck would be the ideal starting point for this endeavor. Plenty to choose from - do some research and determine which of the numerous choices out there fit your budget and overall interest level - then make the choice.

Smithracer11, I'm trying to design a 6x6 on/off road car.. not low riding like the TA05 and 06. But I don't want it sitting as high as a rock crawler.. I want to be able to got fast yet do some adjustments and take off in the dirt or mud..

Oeoeo327, I'm moving towards doing research to see if a couple of different RCs will work good together.. If it will work well together I was thinking about using the drivetrain from a tamiya TA06 and the suspension erevo.. But I'm having troubles finding the downloadable books for them..

I personally think that you are asking for the best of every world and not sure that will be easy to achieve.

if I understand:

1) you want a 6x6 vehicle
2) must go fast
3) not too low not to high
4) it should be an on road and off road car/truck
5) good on road, dirt and mud
6) want to use different pieces from different kits

-----
My 2 cents, but I preface by saying I dont' want to kill any dream or what you may be able to create or achieve.

Speed is relative, so not sure exactly what kind of speed you want to achieve. But if you want this creation to go fast (say 35mph +) then I'd ditch the concept of a 6x6 vehicle. If your okay w/ a 4x4 then i'd look at a Short Course Truck or one of the 4x4 off-road vehicles from Axial. They have several that will go fast, go over rocks, dirt, mud and work well on road. You can get them in a kit form so you can build yourself if your looking for a project.

Building by combining parts from various kits can be done, ..keep in mind you will have to drill and cut parts and may spend extra money testing and ruining parts that don't work the way you wanted. (I know from experience). --but that is 1/2 the fun!

Good luck, keep us posted on your creation.

6x6 serves no purpose unless your towing an rc boat....lol

It's been done with the savage chassis though.

I'd go with a 1/8 buggy or TC/Rally. The Basher BSR Rally is a rebranded Team C GT8LE in RTR form with a rally body and tires.

I will in deed keep you informed.. Ive ordered my piece of aluminum.. 1/16"x12"x24" It should be here in about a week.. I wanted to go with 1/8" thick but I thought it would make the finished product to heavy..
