Last time I raced 17.5 in a 1/12 scale the fast esc was a Tekin RS. What are the available/popular choices now? Preferably without having to use an external power source would be awesome. I have looked and looked and looked and could not find the answer.

Look up 12th scale racing is alive and well in so cal. Or look up redbullfixx the link to it is in his sig. Lots of good info for 1/12 racing in there. But short list is viper, hobbywing, orca, lrp, reedy, core all have 1s speed controls available. I have both viper and hobbywing and both work great for me.

Lol racenut! This should be interesting for all of us pan car guys back on the track after a couple of years layoff. Orca is my new favorite 2s esc and the 1s should be good too. Wont be out for a few weeks or so is what I heard. I am also looking forward to the R1 1s esc. That is not out yet either. So take your pic for now. I just picked up a viper for the time being.

I have the 1S Hobbywing XERUN 3.1. No issues here. I like the Hobbywing lineup. I use them in all my cars.

Well, I ordered a HW 1s esc. Found a brand new one on Ebay for 140.00 so I guess I am set.

A word of caution on the HobbyWing...the wires that come already soldered to the ESC are way to thick for 1s racing and you will want to change them. However the solder they use is very difficult to de-solder and several have damaged the ESC trying to remove the wire. Rather than removing the wire from the post...de-solder the post from the ESC then remove the wire from the post with it not attached to the ESC.

Greetings InspGadgt, thanks for the heads-up on the solder/posts. I don't have the 1S esc but I was on my way to potentially voiding the warranty on my Justock .

As long as there is enough solder and flux it should come right off. Without it you could heat it all day and never get it of as heat will not transfer fast enough.

I have two turnigy 1s ESC that seem to work good. At only $44 they are cheap and so far no problems

If your car will take a larger footprint ESC, you can still get a Hobbywing 2.1 on Ebay, and it's a no motor limit ESC, but I would have to recommend getting the programming card for an extra $20 or so.

It should...but the solder they use is very strange. That coupled with the massively thick wire they use poses a problem. I ran into the same issue on the Viper ESCs. Why the ESC even comes with wires attached that no one uses is rather ridiculous...especially given that it is a 1s only ESC. They should sell the ESC with no wires attached in the first place. It would cost them less in the manufacturing and less in all the warranty repairs they do end up doing.

I had the same issue with a teampowers ESC. A proper iron and clipping the wires short helped as the wires because of the large gauge act like a heat sink and dissipate heat up the wire leaving the joint not hot enough to desolder. Thanks for the heads up.
