I use a v blade cuticle trimmer to remove the mold line, wurth cleaner to remove the release agent on the surface on the tire, drench my additive of choice and drop them in to tire warmers @50C for an hour making sure they don't dry up. Top up 10 mins hitting the track and before you head out to the track, wipe up the excess off the tire.

A friend of mine goes a step further and uses the back side of an old belt to scuff the mold line and surface of tire whilst the tire's spinning on a sander but I find the heat is less controlled.

If you are press for time and want the best performance right out of the hole, do what Marcos.J showed in his youtube link and sand the entire surface of the wire and get rid of the rib in the center. apply the traction compound of your choice and heat the tire up with tire warmer

If you have the time, just chuck the new tires on your car, sauce them up, warm it up with the tire warmer and do a few practice laps on the track. The rib usually is rubbed off in a few laps and you can get a feel of how the new tire perform.

Or you can do this

That's an Xpress XQ1
Warmers set to max when it's 15c out and you're asked to run 40R control tires

40R control tires?

Don't say that too loud though, lots of people on RCTech seem to think that every problem touring car has is that we don't have enough rules. They have already taken away most of our tire warmers.

This is my way and has been for 3yrs. Works great and is consistent from first lap to lap 60ish before feeling slightly different but still feel good.
1. on gforce tire sander
Spin them up @70% make sure the top of the tire is spinning away from you so it don't throw stuff at your face .

2. With square edge file remove center seem.

3. Sand outer side wall with fingernail file to remove logo for gluing .
Sidewall will be glossy&hot when your done.

4. Glue sidewall using helix design or prolix tire gluing machine to desired size .

5. (Back on GForce sander)
Sand entire surface with fingernail file ( we use a plastic/foam based file ) making sure tire has a flat finish when done (I start on outside and work across tire slowly ,takes about 8-10sec to go across tire with firm pressure )
Tire should be between 130-150° at this point.

6. Use a piece of track carpet and apply compound(sxt3) to tire till it begins to smoke.
That tire is done .
Repeat x11 times lol

I run a set of sorex 40’s from time to time and they are very consistent thru the entire run

Wow... so I guess glueing the sidewalls, slapping them on the car after saucing and wheeling it around the track is not smart.. perhaps explains the 3/10th per lap off TQ runners.

I'll have to try this method one time and see if it makes a difference. Thanks for the detail

The real question: After doing all this, what is the life of the tire?

About 3/4 of one lap. Provided you get it down on the carpet before the smoking stops.

Remember when they took our foams away with the promise that rubber tires would be easier, last longer and in the long run be cheaper?
