Default Turnigy ESCs that are ROAR legal

Does it exist? Blinky and ROAR legal ESCs from Turnigy.

I know there are models we can put the hobbywing software in it, but is that considered "Legal"?

I'm looking mainly to save $$ as it's for my kids to bash and eventually race with me, please don't comment with "cheap quality, get the real stuff, etc"...I'm just asking to get informed!

Turnigy Trackstar 120A

or
Turnigy Trackstar GenII 120A

And an 80amp model

The gen2 says it comes with blinky for future roar conformity so they must have submitted it to roar for approval or are planning to do so

Where I race they follow roar rules but as long as it blinks and doesn't look like your going too fast all is good.

That's the thing, i race where they follow Roar rules as well, if a speedo has blinky, but it's on Roar's approved list, is it "Legal"... If i put the hobbywing software on it, it effectively becomes a hobbywing...

As far as I know since '87. No rules on ESC's. Only on Batteries and Motor under ROAR and IMFRA Rule book.

Blinky class ESC's need approval.

The 80A turbo model that you posted is ROAR approved. I'm running one in my vta car (bought it a few weeks ago before it was approved). I also have the 120A version, but it is not ROAR approved, likely due to the existence of the gen2 model.
I ran the 120a gen1 version in 17.5 blinky, and I really liked it. I replaced it with a hobbywing justock to be roar legal. The 120 is now in my 4wd sct running a 5.5t 550 motor, and it works great. Awesome value.
The 80a version in my vta car doesn't feel as crisp, but it likely has more to do with the higher weight of the vta car, the taller gearing, and 21.5t motor.
For new racers on a budget, I'd definitely recommend the trackstar motors and 80a esc.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I am running the 80A in 21.5 blinky. Can you change the 'punch' and it still be legal and in blinky?

Cheers
Ryan

Yes.

As a reminder to everyone, all of the approved ESCs are here:

http://www.roarracing.com/approved_non_timing_escs.php

If the software can be updated, then you must run the approved software for your particular ESC to be legal.

Changing the punch is legal. Just don't change the timing via boost or turbo. Changing those takes it out of blink mode.

As Howard posted: There are now 4 Trackstar ESC's ROAR legal. Both gen II's and the 80 and 120A what I will call Gen I.
