Figured I'd chime in because I recently answered this question for a local .. He had previous RC experience and wanted to get back into RC with the intention of not spending his money twice - meaning having to upgrade in the near future. He was committed and was past the stage of figuring out if this hobby was for him .. my recommendations were based on what I run and what I know some of the top racers in the country run.
Often times there is no one single 'best'. For each component there are a couple of choices that would fit the bill as being the 'best'.
Here were my recommendations to him, they are my biased opinion.
Chassis - Xray (durability for a newer driver) - Awesomatix, BD7
Radio - The flagship radios from KO Propo, Airtronics, Futaba. (the right one is the most comfortable one in your hand)
ESC - Hobbywing V3.1 (I run it - I like it) - Orca
Motor - Trinity D4 13.5
Servo - KO Propo RSX Response or RSXOne (I run them) - Airtronics, Futaba
Battery - EA Motorsports, SMC, Orca
Charger - iCharger Duo 308/406
Power Supply - Muchmore (only one I've ever owned)
Tools - Hudy (gauges, wrenches, setup stations, etc.)
Fan - R1 Wurks
Bodies - Protoform Mazda Speed6 and LTCR
With the above, there is no blame to be put on the equipment, it's up to the driver from there.
