ZAPPING MAGNETS TO INCREASE TIMING
as the title suggests, i am interested in how to zapp a stock motors magnets to increase timing, what are the pros and cons of doing this and does it really work. any input would be appreciated if you have tried this what have been your results.

Cons is that it's boarderline cheating. It's against roar rules.

Not a good idea as your motor will tend to fade during a race and you will lose the magnetic balance between the armature and the magnets. Basically you will over saturate your magnetic field which will cause heat. Dyno results will look really good but track testing is where its at and it simply doesnt work. Murphys Law.

It doesn't work....and simply isn't worth it. It however is NOT against the rules, but some down in Florida seem to think it is, so they will be testing for at the Nats....
Please show me where in the rules it says you can't do it.....last I checked, it specifically ALLOWS the zapping of magnets and gives no direction on what is or is not allowed in the process.....if ROAR wants to make it illegal, then the rules need to specifically say it....however, its going to be a nightmare to tech and rule correctly, as people could accidently zap stuff like that and the armature can actually simulate the symptoms when it over saturates a normally charged magnet.....sorry, but the people teching this understand little how the whole armature to magnet relationship works. My guess.....people who honestly did not do it will end up disqualified....
And No....team br00d doesn't do it, never have....we just find it funny to lap the idiots who think it works.......

I thought the rules say that you can't advance the timing of stock motors? Don't you advance the timing by zapping the magnets off center?

It tricks the motor into thinking it has more timing....it does not actually increase the timing. It's no different than the arms in the motor, which are designed and approved to do the same thing....or timed brushes....
Timing in simple terms changes on the endbell and the comm placement, which BOTH are defined in the rule book.
if they are gonna outlaw zapping the magnets, then they need to require full blank arms and no timed brushes....

Also when you cut the com. doesn't that affect the timing?

Now zapping is basically the same as timing the motor,
would'nt using a brush timing jig do the same thing. Only a whole lot cheaper. Those Zapper's are kinda $$ big bucks $$ right ?
Kinda seems like a disadvantage to the regular racer that can't afford that $700 zapper.
