I wasn't a fan of the Xray ECS as my would fall apart (set screw would back out), but I realized I was using shitty loctite. Ever since I switched to this stuff I've had 0 issues with any of my loctite screws coming out, including the ECS set screws: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HBM5TQ/

The ECS's has in the two joints a short and a slightly longer pin that must be used in the correct place. Guess if someone assembled the ECS's with the pins in the wrong place (I actually did at first), you could break the ECS more easily, as the short pin in the wrong place would be proned to pop out or tear the joint.

That would be one way to screw up.

Not doing up the grub screws properly, or using crap loctite, or greasing the threads before using loctite are a few more.

The TRF and even RSD ones have longer lifespan.

Don't bother with tyhe small grub screws at all, just use heatshrink around the 'elbow' joint and they should last until you rebuild them.

I have bent ECS dog bones in big crashes, but never snapped anything.
Eventually the OEM items wore out and as they are expensive to replace I started using RSD items.

Anyone running normal suspension in the rear?

Should I be concerned about durability on the ARS?

I want to buy some spares but am considering getting non-ARS replacement parts for the rear instead.

Is everyone gluing the edges of their chassis? How important is this?

With the old XRAY ECS', the pins would sometimes break. Now they made the pins bigger, the round bit at the end of the shaft that the barrel goes in is weaker and that shears right off. I've had much better luck with the Arrowmax DCJs, but you just have to remember to turn the retaining clips around on one, making a left and a right, so the open end of the clip won't catch on anything when it rotates forward.

I glue mine. Its pretty cheap insurance to help protect the chassis.

I didn't do this at all for my first few cars and I never had any issues. My latest car I did a really nice job of sanding and sealing all the edges, but last Sunday I managed to delaminate my chassis for the first time, I'm fairly certain it is because the upper bumper brace doesn't quite fit snugly enough against the bulkheads, and the plastic dents, so if you don't do damage on the first couple of solid hits, you probably will eventually.

I don't really think CAing the edges makes much difference, but it does look good if you do a nice job of it

I ran ARS for a month or so on carpet, never found a setup that felt like an advantage, lap times were the same (I need to do more testing). I've since switched back to the standard rear suspension. FWIW, I run 17.5 and mod and never broke anything with the ARS system.
