The kits don't come with offset spurs and there is no need to ever use an offset spur, so why even buy one for it?

Hi All,

Would lime to asa about te ARS
Increasing shims on inside or outside both deacrease toe-in
Decreasing shims both inside or outside will increase toe-in

So is there any difference on doing it inside or outside
If we check the ARS drawing it states in corner More/Less Toe-In and vice versa on exit corner Less/More so is how may we set this up the preference or More to Less or Less to More.

Thanks

Thanks I saw that info the question remains if is the same adding shims either side have same effect and if you take a close look to the corner drawing info there is a difference on more/Less toe in adjustment depending on corner in or Less/More out more.

Looking forward to seeing the indoor setups for this car.

I'm a bit lost with the new rear end

The kits do come with offset spurs.
If you look at the spur supplied in the kit you will see their is a greater depth on one side to the other, as described in the instructions.

From the instructions on the T4 -15
30 5778 OFFSET SPUR GEAR 78T / 48 (OPTION)
30 5781 OFFSET SPUR GEAR 81T / 48 (OPTION)
30 5784 SPUR GEAR 84T / 48
30 5862 OFFSET SPUR GEAR 92T / 64 (OPTION)
30 5866 OFFSET SPUR GEAR 96T / 64 (OPTION)
30 5870 OFFSET SPUR GEAR 100T / 64 (OPTION)
30 5874 OFFSET SPUR GEAR 104T / 64 (OPTION)
30 5876 OFFSET SPUR GEAR 106T / 64 (OPTION)
30 5878 OFFSET SPUR GEAR 108T / 64 (OPTION)
30 5880 OFFSET SPUR GEAR 110T / 64 (OPTION)
30 5882 OFFSET SPUR GEAR 112T / 64 (OPTION)
30 5884 OFFSET SPUR GEAR 114T / 64 (OPTION)

The 30 5784 SPUR GEAR 84T / 48 is also Offset (this is the kit supplied spur)

This is on all the XRay's I have owned from the T4, T4-14 and now the T4-15

I also use RW Xray offset spurs to get the spur lined up centrally

oops my mistake you are correct, just checked mine and the kit spur isn't offest.

However to answer the question why use an Offest Spur, it lines the spur centrally with equal distance each side to the top deck.
And this why PPhanef's spur doesn't sit centrally as it is the standard gear and not an offset spur.

For those who are having problems centralizing the spur in the top deck try flipping this part 305521-K instead of the actual spur.

I have my doubts as to how useful the ARS is on carpet. I think it's a setup option that will only work in some circunstances.

Std pillar in the centre and no shims on knuckle produces small changes that increase toe during the corner.
Add an outer shim and the difference in toe during the corner gets smaller still.

I think if another 1mm is added then you start to get reduced toe during the corner.

If the pillar on the chassis was shorter then the change in toe in might be too great which would cause the car to be unstable.
It's designed for very fine adjustments, not huge changes during corners.

I had trouble with it on Sunday and a medium grip carpet meeting, but then discovered that the rear tyres were tearing off the rims (I was too tired to notice what the cause was )

I wanted to run 64 pitch gears, and I just got one of the Xray spur gears mentioned from the list of option parts in the manual, and explained carefully how to install them them (wrong!)... I was a bit surprised at the offset thing (first time I heard of them), especially as the kit one was not offset, but I figured I'd get the one from Xray, they'd know best?

I think a non-offset spur would be dead center between the two sides of the top deck, but I gotta say that the alignment (once I flipped it!) with the pinion was pretty much perfect, just needed to have the end of the pinion flush with the end of the motor's shaft, no worries.

I'm most definitely running an offset spur. I can easily feel that one side is deeper, and flipping the spur gear, it went from very close to one side of the top deck, to very close to the other side of the top deck.

I didn't even try the standard spur from the kit...

I tried flipping that too (tried all four combinations of this and the spur, in fact), and none of them centered the spur between the sides of the top deck, but with only the spur flipped (leaving the part you mention as in the manual), it doesn't touch anywhere, and lines up nicely with the pinion (which was giving me trouble before I flipped it).
