this sounds good is the track a flowing track and do you have a setup sheet showing the overall set up

Thanks

Also allow for the fact that the ARS system narrows the rear, I think by 1mm.

Considering smaller spur and pinion gears and wondering if there are any suggestions from Xray T4 2015 owners that would help. Looking to reduce rotating mass with a different gear combination. Currently running a 52/96 (64p) combination. We run on a small parking lot track with our long straight about 63 feet long. ()

I also need to confirm the internal multiplier in the diff to calculate the FDR. Bought the car used with only 1 race event under it's belt and I'm still on a steep learning curve.

What brands of spur gears fit?....or maybe the short answer to the question is: which brands won't fit the Xray?

Thanks in advance!!

I use Panaracer and/or LeeSpeed most of the time depending which brand has the specific tooth I need.

Prior to that, I have used Spec-R and some HPI spurs.

Also have used speedmind with a modification to my spur gear pulley (sanding off .5mm from the big black spacer).

I also have tested some Tamiya spur gears too.

If going to a smaller spur / pinion, I think you'll notice the weight balance change more than any rotating mass change.

Just what I was thinking. You need to lose a lot of rotating mass to regain half a second from the rear end stepping out!

52/96, what motor are you running. i agree with everyone else about rotating mass.. the driveline is very light.. heck.. the car is extremely light.. i run a 17.5TC class and have to add weight, in order to meet the weight requirements for the class. i use a 96t with 46-48 normally on a descent sized asphalt track.

only 63' straight.. is your FDR correct? i think the Transmission ratio number your looking for is 1.9

Dumb question for you gurus out there.. since switching from offroad to onroad, i am having trouble understanding how you guys figure gear ratio or drive ratio. i know how to do the math, what i want to know, is how do you guys know what FDR will put you in the ball park for differnt turn motors.

i typically run 17.5, so, i know where i should be for that.. but.. if i decided to run mod, 8.5 for example, where would i start? where would i start for say a 5.5? what is the rule of thumb.

in offroad, you usually dont change motors much.. and gearing is about the same.. plus or minus a tooth..

thanks for the incite.

A lot of times, the motor manufacturer will give you a starting range.

A local Xray t4 2015 driver told me the diff multiplier is 2.1, so I would definitely like a confirmed multiplier before I go nut changing gearing. Currently running a 17.5 Schuur Speed short stack motor but will be changing to a Certified Trinity D4 when we start our day racing schedule in early October.

I just confirmed that you are correct....and my local friend is NOT!!

20 tooth layshaft pulleys and 38 tooth diffs equals 1.9:1

Are there any other brands of spur gear that fit this car? Kimbrough & Robinson appear to be too thick.
