Handout motors for all non mod classes. Sign me up for that.

Spec racing was never as close as it was when we did handout brushed motors.

A 1/12 spec tire conversation isn't a conversation until the idea of rubber tires is brought up.

You only have to look at the ETS to see handout motors can be extremely successful. You can also note that the top guys are always the top guys.

BTW .. the difference in price between the entry fee in IIC's handout motor class (amateur) vs. non-handout (17.5) = $20

$20 for a brand new Orca RX3 Motor .. probably less than 1 set of spec tires at a big race and at the end of the race I'm sure you could sell it for $20 afterwards if you didn't want to keep it.

Also .. If spec classes were handout motors, and they were pre-tech'd (like EA did this year) there would be no need to pre-tech your motors, no lines, no time spent ... feel free to true your spec tires in that time slot lol.

I really don't see a downside.

+3

Was in the same boat. Made an executive decision to run one of my cars all tweaked/bent out of shape for most of the week. More happy fun time. Hindsight is 20/20 and the car is still a busted mess somewhere in the garage

I'm no Gods gift to rc racing, but the speed of some of the cars this year was ridiculous. I was getting pulled 5 to 10 feet down the straight. The average Joe has no chance of competing at these big races. I know I will get flamed for saying something but I think something needs to be done, it's not healthy for the hobby.

Perhaps you needed more time to test your stuff
Or race the spec class if you truly believe what you have posted
Most likely the difference you notice is not the motor...but the battery and battery care. I found my old motor easily kept up once I switched to a better battery, then was very fast (at my local track) once I started cycling my batteries. Locally I went from being a mid pack car, to contender, to setting the track record all with the same motor. The motors I ran at the IIC this year were last year's IIC motors and still had good pace...the driver on the other hand was a mess.

17.5 1/12 scale with a hand out motor sounds like a better idea than a spec tire to me. It also brings in another sponsor for the race to showcase their products. I would cut down motor tech time and give racers in that class time to focus on other things. Maybe all "stock" classes should be handout motors and the only motors that would need to be run through tech would be mod classes..... that opened up a can o worms didn't it.

That is true, and I appreciate the gesture. I just find it more difficult having multiple people working on a car then just doing it myself.

I can see 17.5 being a handout motor but 13.5 shouldn't. It is after all a "expert" class
