Project RC BMW ///M3

Thanks M! The wheels I have on the TC6.1 are very close. They are currently a 3mm font and 6mm back offset. I have ordered a set of 9mm for the back and will move the 6mm up front.
The 225mm wheel base is actual the 2002 body. Looking at pictures of it, the 6mm offset might be too much, but I could be wrong. However I agree, for the E30 M3, 6mm for sure on the back
I'm still liking your suggestion to use a M06 Especially for a parking lot basher!
Thanks Evo. For the E46 and E92 I airbrushed, its actually not a Blue-green, but I guess the monitor doesn't lie I do a mix depending on the color I need. I like blending my own colors, even it its for a subtle change, that then requires airbrushing. I use a Iwata HP Plus gravity feed, and a Badger 150 siphon airbrushes.

I was just looking at the Iwata brand air brush, seems like the way to go. Do you switch up between the Iwata and Badger to produce different kinds of effects? I'm virgin new to airbrushing. What type of compressor do you use? I would imagine you wouldn't need something too industrial.

I typically use the Iwata for when I use stock colors and I can just keep reloading the cup. The Badger I use when I custom blend colors and use the jar. However for the E46 I painted yesterday, I used the Iwata and just reloaded from the jar. The Badger also has a color cup, however I would have to say I like the Iwata the best.
I just realized that picture above with the sky blue in the cup is my old vintage pre Badger from the 70s, I still use that one every now and then too :lol This is the badger 150
Here is the Iwata
I actually use a 5 gallon 2HP Twin stack shop compressor. Its over kill, but its handy in and in my garage. However you are right it doesn't take a big compressor. I have actually considered a smaller hobby compressor, one day
Here are some preliminary shots of the body mounted on the TC6.1 Its a shame I have to put the GTR wing on due to those standoffs on the trunk... I like how clean it looks as is, needing just a bit of detail. Oh well, what's that saying, in for a in for an ounce, in for a pound. I may as well make it look like a race car then.

Viper Z, you nailed this paint job. I love the dark, deep richness of the paint.
I agree, that body looks nice without the wing, too bad it has the standoffs, but one way you could make it work by running a low mounted wing thats truer to scale like this:
I also dig the offset of the wheels. When they're flushed like that, the car looses that "RC toy" look, and takes on a more authentic real appearance. You really appreciate the look when you take it out for a run.

Thanks Evo! I'll see how the kit one looks, but I agree, I may have to make one, or find a smaller one. I've been on the lookout for one for the orange e92. I like it with out, but the real GTS has a small black one as well.
I'm thinking I want to paint up the HPI E30 M3 I got in the classic red, mount it on the TC6.2 then I would have 4 version of the M3
Agreed, flush is nice for looks, but I find it doesn't run as well in operation. I notice this with my 1/8th scale cars...

I finished up the E46 M3, with the exception of the 9mm offset wheels yet to come for the back. I think this is my favorite one so far. I hope you enjoy the pictures. Thanks for all the inspirations for this project!
I really like the way the Team AE Blue aluminum accentuates with this body though the rear window

Very nice job Viper Z. The color on the e46 is simply amazing. In the first picture, I love how the rich, deep, blue of the shell parts with itself to reveal the translucent opening and depth through the rear window. It accentuates the blue aluminum of the chassis against the fainter detail of the carbon. And the clear spoiler works very well with the theme. In the third from last picture, the car looks truly elegant—stunning! Your work is requiring refined vocabulary to describe it (smile). I think I'm going to invest in the airbrush system.
Finally, at the completion of such an impeccable finish, I would be reluctant to take it outside for a drive, unless it was on new pavement with absolutely nothing within 100 yards...curbs, trees, etc...!!!

One big reason I hated TC is the unrealistic Body of Racer's choice in some stupid family sedan of Mazda 6. Now my local weekend outdoor club racing suckered me into TC besides our main 1/8th VE. After picking up a left over new TC6.1 kit, I had to hunt down some more real world looking body.
So this is my closes creation I can do in looks of old school DTM which survived some huge airborne battle scares.
A big learning curve now in TC chassis/motor set up against those ultra fast X Ray.

Wow Evo, you express your artistic emotions and feeling very well Thanks Buddy, well done! I certainly plan to drive it at the club if only for pictures. Then put on those generic Mazda bodies for basic club racing

When I was purchasing a few TC bodies like the Mazda GX, and Protoform R9-R, it was tough to decide as they all looked so similar... I have read and can understand each one has it's own handling characteristics, it's that much of a science. I told Aaron at the hobby shop to please escort me out of the store if I ever get to that point where I'm flossing between them for more front steering, or less
What is that body?

I dislike all those singular shaped Mazda bodies as well. They don't even look like the Mazda sedans driving around. I'm not sure how Mazda got the keys to the TC city like that. If it was my class to design the cars would have to look more scale and be actual models that are made like the BMW 335, Mercedes C Class, Audi S4...etc

Thanks for the link!
I get my Protoform 1/10 bodies for about $22 at my local hobby store with my discount. Shipping of bodies is always a killer no matter how cheao they are.
I give you credit! You win in hating generic TC bodies more than me to do that, creative effort
It reminds me of this.... Not a real BMW, rather something cobbled out of a Pontiac Grand Prix, or maybe an Acura CL
