I'm a little confused on what i have read about ackerman. From my reading, adding shims between the steering rack and ball joints should reduce ackerman effect, right (making the steering turnbuckles move away from parallel)? But if that's the case why does it feel like my car has more steering with shims added??

need help serpent s411
I have a serpent s411 the belt is rubbing the front cross member any ideas
#831
Think we will need a photo to help because I don't know of anything on the 411 called a cross member! Only thing I can think is either the top deck or shock tower but neither should be an issue.

My guess is the FR arm mount is the 1 piece and needs to be flipped over and raised with shims like the older models used to do.

Before the s411 came with split arm mounts this is the way the FR block needed to be mounted so the belt didn't rub. You put a 3mm shim under the block to make this work correctly.

Body style. Normally I run the Parma series of Alfa bodies. This weekend I ran the LTC. What a mess. My favorite tuning guide is tire temp. With the Alfa temps were balanced front to rear and ran cooler from inside to outer edge. Keeping the same set-up this was my experience.
LTC rear temps 10 degrees less - which fell below 90 degrees. Rear was uncontrollable
Add bigger wing, not much improvement. Raised lower Fornt a-arm by 1mm. Lowered. Rear inner upper link 1mm and narrowed the front end. Good improvement. Still off the pace by seconds. Rear temps up 7 to 8 degrees fronts cooler and balance was OK.
Alfa back on. Pushed like a dump truck. Removed front spacer n brought front back to normal width. Result TQ. Front rubber 108 to 103 Rear 100 to 97
Moral of the story.
Car set-up discussion worthless unless you include body !
Motor gearing discussion worthless unless you know motor.
I asked Michael Bruce at Superior Hobbies in Orlando a gearing question. He was one of the only racers to ask, motor, chassis, body style questions. That's a dude who knows his stuff

Anyone ever come across an adjustable castor stupid for the TC cars? I'm not referring to changing blocks, but an offset part for mounting the "C" hub which would allow caster adjustments.
Thanks.
Thanks.

An old serpent 2wd gas car had some adjustable camber detail. If I remember correctly.
I run the old style plastic 6 caster blocks which i open up a bit for our CVD's Takes a larger pin so the lower A-arm hole is modified. I like em, but its a pain to change...

The Parma Alfa was mainly one of the "go to" bodies during the foam tire days.
